i've made the vgpu mod and now i can run it 500/400 air cooling
if someone know how to vmod the memory just post here

with the vgpu mod i've just made 23k :)

wouldn't it be too much heat since at stock volt the RAM sames hot to me

no one know if it's the same method for the mem on the 256mb DDR-II version???

the gpu mod is the same.
I believe its now a dual hip mod for the ddr-II
i. e not the same as 128mb version

thx DJ

i allready made the vgpu mod and i can run 500/395 air cooling(i will put some serious cooling when all mod been done)

this card doesn't look like a overclocker choice but it's a damn good card for gaming!!!

if you learn something about the vmem of this card,please let me know ;)

I learned that volt modding the mem doesn't do jack. Neither raising VDDQ or VDD helped any. I also noticed that O/Cing the mem doesn't help as much as it does with normal 128mb ddr models. Must be the CAS latencies i guess. Vcore mods works fine. Mine runs happily at 520/400 with 82F air though, albeit quite toasty :) Oh and mod is pretty much the same as any other mod. aka mod the Intersil 6522 chip :)

thx Catch22

that was very special for the vmem mod for this card
if it's right i think it's 2.2ns DDR-II...450mhz???

I haven't removed any heatsinks on the ddr to verify. But i was also assuming the exact same ddr-II stuff. Yes it's 454.54545mhz. Damn stuff should do 500x2 imo. Here's what i noticed. Voltage ripple if i raise voltage. Voltage ripple if i leave it at stock but o/c it a bit. What's that tell me? Damn mosfet is maxxed out or hexfet or jfet or whatever the hell it is. Only one way to fix that. Replace the damn thing outright or add another one in series or i got another idea i'm currently working on to fix that problem. I'm using one of my R9700's that has 1 fried ddr. Wish that ddr-II stuff on this R9800Pro2 256mb card was 2.0ns 500mhz stuff. Hmm i got a few other ideas i'll try as well. But let's start with what is supposed to be default volts for that ddr-II stuff according to data sheets.

VDD = 2.5
VDDQ = 1.8
Vref = vddq*0.5 aka 0.900 volts.

OK after having such a huge problem with Vref in every card that ATI has made in the last couple years it may be worth checking that as well on this card. Although i'm not experiancing a Vref type of artifact it still may be worth looking into. I'll do what's usually worked for me and set Vref to vddq*0.50 then add 0.075 to that and see what happens. But before i do that i gotta finish theese mosfet experiments i got going. Now time to plug in my soldering iron :) I'll let everyone know what happens. Just to give you a sample i've lowered the heat on one of my mosfets that was burning hot to barely warm. Still not sure if it's helped o/c any. Although core runs cooler. Modding the other mosfet now. That one is burning hot also. Hell if anything at least i'm getting rid of excess heat LOL BTW getting rid of that excess heat might help the ddr-II. Less heat more watts :)

So the core mod is pretty easy? What would be a good voltage to set the gpu to with water cooling. it does 510 on the gpu right now with no mods just water( room temp).

How much more you think i could get out of this 9800pro 256mb?

Is the mod easy to remove in case i have to RMA?

I just spent 500 on this card and was wondering if the risk was to great.

If im going to mod it, what guide do you guys suggest using?

Core mod is like the normal R9800Pro 128mb card. I usually use 1.830 volts when i use my heatsink/fan with 78f air. With water maybe up to 1.925 MAX!!! I've tried up to 2.025 but it didn't help. 1.925 was max it liked to run at. I run mine 24/7 with 1.83 volts and i mean for like 6 months straight. Er not really 24/7 though. Say 6 hours a day or so. So 1.925 MAX for benching and 1.830 MAX for gaming is what i do.
