An idea, crack the firmware from the new 360 and find a way to modiffy old 360's to be able to have 120GB HD's.

The Xbox 360 Elite with its HDMI and 120GB hard drive aren’t set to officially launch until April 29, a lucky Chico, Calif. man was able to score one such console from a Target store. Pictures proving his purchase hit Photobucket and other various Internet forums.

Before long, the purchase made its way onto Internet auction site eBay, which the seller is advertising, “I have one BRAND NEW XBOX 360 Elite in my posession FACTORY SEALED!” and noting that the item is not a preorder and is ready to ship at the end of the auction. At time of publication, the Xbox 360 Elite sits at a $600 bid. The auction is set to end on April 23.

Well the old 360s can use the 120gb hard drive if you buy it. If you mean buying a cheaper drive then you can open up the hard drive case, plug in the laptop hs to your computer using a notebook to ide converter, find some sectors to copy ("sectors 16 - 22 (7 sectors) from a valid x360 HDD"), and then buy the same kind of hd (so far they can only get these to work, but you can use bigger ones with the same model name). You will have to copy the sectors onto the new drive and format it using a program. Then you need to buy a used hd plug, or use the old 20gb case & plug, or open the 360 and wire it directly.

Thing is, you will need the MS 120gb to get the sectors:stick:
Or you can probably find them somewhere on the web soon....
A 120gb that you can use is $80 on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822136072
I don't need more than 20gb right now until they crack the newest kernel and make a media center app like on xbox 1. :toast:

isnt that freaking awesome.

80 bucks on newegg or 180 bucks from microsoft.

freaking wonderful

and MS claims its an appropriate price given the cost of external hard drives for pc's which is bullsh|t.
i can get a 500gb for 140 and an enclosure for 20 bucks.. still cheaper than there retarded 180

or 120gb laptop drive for 80 and a laptop hard drive external case for 10-10.. which still makes it under 100 bucks.
plus i can take it with me anywhere and use it on any device that will take it.

and,, the Ps3 will take any laptop drive you stick in it... and use it as its natural drive.

180 bucks for a 100gig drive.

i guarentee you this wont last..

But are those the prices for 5400 or 7200 rpm 2.5in drives? If they are using a 120gb 7200rpm drive, and with current 7200rpm drives going for about $1 per gb then add in a custom enclosure, ease of install and normal markup and I can understand $180. But if its a 5400rpm drive than its a total ripoff.

Either way, its high prices like this that bring out the creativity in others to DIY, better and cheaper.
