Hi, i have myself a 9600 Pro and it is begging for a voltage mod. After tons of research it seems the first ones that went out got to around 540+ core while most of the new ones people are getting will not even get to 475 or so(core voltage been lowered?). Mine will crap out at about 485. I have a copper HSF and copper ramsinks plus 80mm fans blowing cold air on it. After hours of 3dmark not one part of the card is even warm.. not even the back of the core, maybe 25-27 celcius. This card is in dire need of volt mod. I havent seen anything about a vmod for this card. If anyone knows of one please give me a link.. I would even like to find out how to do it myself, but i would need some help on where to start.. i have done alot of modding and vmods but never figured one out myself.
Thanks

q149 welcome to Xtreme forums !!! glad to see you here !! :)

From what I've seen almost all of the made by ATI cards 9500pro, 9700pro, 9800pro, etc..... have the same mod for Vgpu. Its very easy and you can even use grabbers if your soldering skill need work. Here are some links to the R9700pro Vmod it should be the same chip, might be in a different location on the board is all. ;)

Thanks :)
The link on the first post of the first link does not seem to work. I am looking at the 2nd link.. i see the SC1175CSW chip on the 9600, but all of the other numbers are different... it reads 0305 and G28385 on the next line. Would this still be good? Also would i need to measure the voltage going to the core somehow with a multimeter to find out what kind of resistor i need? Would it be safe to just start with 10k Ohms? I will be using solder btw unless there is some chain store in the US that sells grabbers, if there is i would like to know.

Thanks

RadioShack sells some relatively small grabers.

If you found the SC1175 then thats all there is too it :)

I would use a variable resistor and not a fixed value, you can get a 15 turn 100k pot that will work fine from radioshack too.

10k VR between pin 18 and gnd. You will just have to figure out which capacitor to measure Vgpu from, it wont be hard should only be three or so caps around the SC1175.

Ok, i got a 10k 15 turn pot. The guy at Radio Shack didnt know what i was talking about when i asked about grabbers or micro clips. I ussually solder but i am kinda scared as nobody else has done this on a 9600. I think i will do it exactly as it says on the extremeoverclocking guide.. but it also kind of scares me that only the first line on the chip reads the same. The chip is also on the other end of the card on the left top corner of the card from the back. Also, can you tell me which way to have the pot to make sure it is set on 10k using the setup onthis guide (http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/articles/guides/R9700_Vmod_1.html). Even if Radio Shack has some sort of clip(micro aligator clip?), i couldnt get it until tomorrow.. i am debating whether or not to just do this tonight with soldering.. i am just unsure if it will work correctly on this card and don't want any solder on it if it does not. I have everything soldered together exaclty like in the guide, with a leg from a fixed resistor soldered on the end of the wire instead of a grabber.
Thanks

I measured 2 voltages on powercolor 9600pro - 1.3V (vcore i think) and 2.8V (vmem then).
didnt find VDD at first (or is it synced to vmem?)

i have anpecAPW1175 vrm for vcore.
but its pin-compatible with semtec one, so i'll go for it.

ok, i did a mod to (the only) 1175 chip i found.
and 1.3V stayed the same.
but 2.8V jumped to 2.97V .
asd? :D
can it be that vgpu is controlled by some of isl chips?

that means that vdd + vmem are the same, controlled by 1175 vrm.
and now 2 parallel mods are needed for vgpu?

update: this sure was mem as core crapped out at 480 as usual
but mem went from 333 to 355.
also.. there seems to be 5 caps.. 2 gives 1.3V, 2 gives 2.8V and
1 gives 1.4V .
2.8V is linked to 1175 VRM for sure.. but other two..
damn i just ran out of VR's too :(
i can continue this 2moro or even at sat..
so, q149, it's your turn now :D

I actually already tried it. I did the same you did.. i didnt even have a multimeter so i just chanced it and tried. Before 3dmark03 would crash past 488 and after i could go a little higher. I didnt even try to raise the memory but i noticed if i turned the voltage up past a certain point i would have major artifacts no matter what. I got rid of the 9600 Pro now though.. i traded it and some memory for a 9700 Pro.
Good luck with it, I would think it should oc quite alot after a vmod considering how extremely cool it runs.

Hi guys, this is my first post, so be gentle...

I bought myself a Sapphire Atlantis Radeon 9600 pro, and all is well with it, so far :)

The moment I got it, I was marginally unimpressed with it, so I clocked the card up a bit.

Hearing that some people couldn't get over 488, I tried 480 to start with on the core, along with 330 on the mem.

It worked completely stable for 10 loops of 3d mark 2001, and I was slightly more impressed, but I thought there was room for more, so I progressively clocked the core up bit by bit, and before I realised, I was at 540 for the core. It's completely stable, so I tried ramping up the mem a little bit more (as seemingly the ram on this is rated to 700 afaik).

I could only get the ram to 337 stable, 343 is ok for a little while, then craps out after a little while (heat issue perchance?)

Do you guys reckon a volt mod would help it out a bit, and if so, could I get some detailed descriptions on how?

Cheers

ive got my vgpu from 1.25 to 1.52 now running 1.4v

ive got my vmem from 2.75 to 2.91

The core voltage bump got me to 531 so far and the vmem got me nil. I think a vref adjustment 1/2 vmem is in order i think the vref is the 1.35 i got off my board. 1.35 x 2 = 2.7 so it could be.

Jethro could you post pictures of both vgpu and vmem mod. Or do they both go up with one mod to the SC1175 chip ? Also where are the measure points for vmem and vgpu ?

Thanks in advance.

I'm confused guys, which one is the GPU mod? The 1175? OR what? Any detailed pics?

Built by ati card, the ddr mod seems to be good for all of em the GPU mod is diff on 3rd party cards. for more info on that go here:

Got a 9600 pro Sapphire, doest 525/360 out the box. Put it in a customers computer. Scored 14.9k in 3dmark @ 3ghz P4

Got this crap ass power color. said 400/400 for cheap. crank it to 430 core it cracks up. memory's 400 is 200x2. card is crap!!!

7500 3dmarks on a 2600xp chip. Going in a customers computer also. Ashamed to put it in there!!!!

Thanks :toast: I'm only going for the Vgpu (same chip as your pics)
The Vmem mod is same chip as my 9800, but this one is another type, and it's not my card so :D
Does 537/353 stock :) (core is already wasted :D)
Friend of mine has a 9600 PRO @ 569/350 no mods  :slobber:
We're #1 and #2 :) I am pure on CPU power :D
