so just 2 hour ago when i was playing NHL 2004 with a friend of mine.
and just when i was winning the lights in my appartment started flickering and a just seconds after that we heard a loud bang from the inside of my pc, my friend told me that he saw a small flash at the same time. shocked by this i took the psu out from my case and admittedly heard that there was something rattling inside. so i desided to try if my pc whould power up with a nother power supply and surelly it did.... catastrophy avoided nothing else died.
good thing that the psu was new so it had some warranty left so that i can RMA it and get a new one.

so the question is what the hell happened here. i've never had a psu died on me before, how common is it?

ps. the PSU in question is in my sig

I've read good things about that brand of PSU, I'm surprised.

You're really luck it didn't take any of your components with it!!!

I've had that happen with cheap PSU's.

actually it might of been power spike. talked to my neighbor just now and he said that he saw street light flickering somewere around at that time. when the PSU died.
truelly wierd thing since Bequiet is known for building high quality psu's.

850w is fine for 8800GTX SLI, regardless, the PSU was probably not at fault. Sounds like a mass power surge. Do you have a good quality surge protector?

your Psu is definitely NOT bad quality if , it only , itself pops

and not pop everything else connected to it.

well.. thats what i think. lol

no i don't have surge protector mayby i should get one, but honestly over here mass power surge are really rare, actually i can't remember the last time that happened.

oh and and like you said this 850w psu should be fine for 8800GTX in SLI, since it's quad sli ready psu.

Read the "Power and You" Guide stickied in this forum, line conditioners can actually help improve stability of the system.

850w is fine for 8800GTX SLI I agree...but not for a BeQuiet PSU, even for the dark power series.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/psu/413/6/Thing is, I have no idea about the internals of the psu...not to mention, your link doesn't prove that the psu can handle qc + g80 gtx sli OVERCLOCKED.

Buy yourself a good surge protector ;) APC has a $50,000 guarantee on all their UPS's and and similar on their surge strips.

generally look at how much it guarantees against, higher means it is much less likely to break.

What do you base that on, gut feeling?

A good 450W can handle 8800GTX SLI:

I wouldn't run SLI on :banana::banana::banana:ty brand like Hiper but a Quality 500W can do it easlily. As for overclocking you might need a 700W and 850W will be overkill. I'm talking quality psu here. Fhcpcris managed to reach 700W with a cracy overclock but I havn't seen anyone come near that.

Get a APS UPS. It's a good investment as it protects your gear from spikes etc.

2nd or 3rd the recommendation on the APS UPS.

It has software that keeps track of power fluctuations, and you'll be surprised that even in a good power system little things go wrong that you barely notice most of the time.

ok thanks gues, i think i will go for the APS UPS. i've asked this same question in few other forums and all seem to agree that the APS UPS is the way to go.

4thed on the APC UPS, I've got the VA1000...should be around $130 now. When I lived in Indiana, t-storms routinely kicked my power out. It'd go back on after awhile, but it was nice to continue gaming, hehe.

$130.....thats pretty cheap.. too bad i'm not that lucky the same va1000 costs €261( thats $348) over here.

You just gave a link that indirectly led to an Inquirer citation.

have to agree with you. there is no way 450w is enough to power a 8800gtx sli system...
