I just up-graded my computer from a socket 939 3500+ to an Opteron 180 dual core. I built this system a couple of years ago, and have done a few small up-grades on it since, so I know how the parts fit together. Software is another issue for me. I am a software idiot.

I am trying to figure out whether or not my dual core is being recognized. I've tried running a dxdiag on it and found this:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.061219-0316)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD
System Model: MS-7125
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: AMD Hammer Family processor - Model Unknown, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.4GHz
Memory: 2048MB RAM
Page File: 381MB used, 3560MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode

When I open the Task Manager I find no box to set the process affinity, as I understand I should if I have a dual core processor.

I am running the latest bios for my mobo (MSI K8N Neo4F), and I have downloaded and run the AMD Dual Core Optimizer. What have I missed?

AMD processor driver?

You don't need to set affinity as Windows does it automatically.

To see if your using both cores, bring up the task manager and look on the performance tab, if there are two CPU graphs then its using both CPU's

Okay, when I pull up the Task Manager I only get one graph for CPU Usage, another for Page File Usage.

It seems that I am only getting use of one core. How do I correct this?

Windows should've picked up both cores, when I installed my X2 windows picked up both cores before I'd installed drivers/optimizers. Did you force HAL when you installed windows?
