Hello all, as you may or may not know, the new reincarnation of the GTA genre is due out on October 16, 2007. This is relativly major in the gaming world as most of us have played or at least heard of the Grand Theft Auto series. The new game in the series will be completely redesigned from the ground up on new graphics, physics and sound engines. The purpose of this thread is to post any and all upcoming news, pics and other forms of media as they break. Currently there is not much know about this game as Rock* has been very secretive about letting information out to the public. However if check their main site you would have noticed that the release date for the first gameplay trailer has been posted as 6:00pm EST on March 29, 2007. Until then, I have posted a link to a video of the animation engine that is said to be used in GTA IV. Enjoy:)

That's not the physics engine, that's the animation engine... They're two different things.

Has anyone noticed this?

People on websites say that there is some sort of hint in the script of the count-down page. I checked it and they're right. It says in one line '<script>theDudeAbides();</script>'. 'The Dude Abides' is a famous quote from the movie 'The Big Lebowski'.
First of all, the movie takes place in California, so that may be a clue.
The Big Lebowski is also often compared to 'The Truth' from GTA III: SA. Just look at this Wikipedia quotation:

'In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, there are numerous references to the movie including: Carl "CJ" Johnson (the last name being a repeated word in the movie), several exact quotes that were said in the movie are said in the game, the character The Truth, in the game, loosely resembles the main character of Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski.'

So don't be surprised if you see 'The Truth' appearing in the trailer. I can't wait! :banana:

Can't wait until this comes out for PC. Even if graphics aren't all the great, and you got to admit that all the previous ones were great to begin with, I have to say that GTA-series has probably been one of the only titles that remained entertaining despite so many sequels.

Most games now a days doesn't get much game hours out of it. STALKER could of been Oblivion caliber, but horribly buggy, and missing a few minor features to make the gameplay more enjoyable. Supreme Commander got boring after a while. C&C3 should be fun, campaign should give people a good amount of playing time, and for P2P, the sky's the limit.

BTW, it looks like we're back in Liberty City! With B-E-A-U-tiful graphics in HD! Slightly worse than Alan Wake, which is a big compliment IMO. The leading man in the trailer seems to be a Latino immigrant who's making his way through Liberty City.
This is going to be a big hit by the looks of it, it might just get more popular than Halo 3! :woot:

I was slightly disappointed by the trailer, but not too much. The graphics look stunning, and it looks as if it might be an accurate representation of New York City. Now we'll have to wait months for any other info. :(

Looks great, they definatly did quiet a bit with the engine and finally looks like a nice upgrade to the franchise. As well I think that looks like New York just with that Chrysler looking building in the preview.

Looking forward to this, but man they should of showed off more of the engine. I wanted to see more cars grrr.

I found a very interesting resemblence in the character in the trailer and another character in the GTA franchise.

It looks like the guy in the trailer is not Russian, since he is probably the leader of the Russian Maffia in GTA2: Jerkov. He is Serbian... Nice name though! :D

As we know... Toni Cipriani from Liberty City Stories also had a minor role in GTA 3, this could indeed be Jerkov. Also, Claude Speed appeared in GTA:SA as a gang-member, where he lost a forest-race from CJ.
Also, it should also fit a present-day setting because Jerkov was murdered in 2013 in GTA 2 when he was 41 years old. So he should be 34 or 35 years old in 2007.
It is also very remarkable that the when the character was talking, the docks appeared. Jerkov used to be around the docks in the Industrial Zone in GTA 2!
