Cleaning Out The Closet For Our Readers
Not many publications have the ability to show performance of a dozen video cards over several generations of GPU's, but that is exactly what Legit Reviews has been able to do. We've taken a handful of our 'retired' graphics cards out of the closet to get some updated benchmarking numbers. In 2005 and 2006 we tested all of the graphics cards on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor, but now that the Intel Core 2 Duo processor is the hot item we have moved over our testing platform to bring you numbers that you can actually use.

Other than updating the hardware used for the testing we also used ATI CATALYST 7.2 drivers on all of the graphics cards, which greatly improved the performance on some of the older cards that we haven't used in over a year. By running the latest drivers on all of these cards we were able to see just how well older cards stack up to the latest and greatest on some newer game titles. Other than improved gaming performance on older cards we also found some things that were very shocking and not supposed to happen.

Armed with the above 24 graphics cards (24 individual cards) we set off for days and days of benchmarking to bring you some performance charts that our readers could actually use to help judge on what upgrade would be the right move for them. We are also doing this for all of our NVIDIA cards, so be prepared for some big performance charts when the upcoming NVIDIA and ATI Products are released in the coming weeks.

There are games there.. not for all cards, but good enough.

But I did not know the x1650XT was such a good performer... Slightly overclocked and it will beat the x1800XL.

Wonder if the x850 crossfire situation is due to 2x16 pcie rather than the 2x8 at launch.

you mean the higher than 1600X1200 or the performance?

Performance wise X850XT crossfire performs perfectly fine on my 965P board.

As for the resolution i only have a 20" monitor so i can't test any higher.

and why'sthat? other sites show it as fast as the XL not just this review. if your talking apples to apples on oc the XL would prolly be faster then.

in the forums they say that this is 1 outta 3 reviews and that they tested in more resolutions that will be in the fina larticle with nv and ati combined. i'd say that's a decent mix of games if they are indeed testing multiple resolutions on ati x800,x1000x and nvida6,7,8 series cards.
so what matters most, resolution testing or the number of games? i emailed the dude that wrote the article asking him why there aren't more games and he said that he's just starting nv cards and was open to suggestions.

on the xfire thing, i'm pretty sure intel bx2 is x8 x8 effectively.

So in reality they should say 23 as they werent really testing the x300 against other.

Strange seeing how in their benches the X1950Pro is beating out the X1800XT whereas other sites show those cards being neck and neck; and usually the X1800XT winning by a small margin. Just kinda disheartening since I have an X1800XT. :(
