Heres what he said...

A question - I ran CPUZ and it tells me that the memory is PC2-6400 at 400 mhz, but the are 8500 and the bios confirms that?

Heres what hes using....

RAM - OCZ PC2 8500 1066 MHZ SLI Ready (OCZ2N1066SR2GK)
M/B - EVGA nForce 680i
Windows XP Professional (fully updated)

Any ideas?

6400 is the highest Jedec Spec, no board will boot at DDR2-1000, let alone 1066. So 400 is the highest table in the SPD.

Normal in other words, you have to overclock to get 1066

How would he go about overclocking the ram without overclocking the CPU, is that possible? If not ill just have to explain to him how to do the overclocking of the CPU.

Setting a lower CPU multiplier or possibly using a RAM divider will get him there. I'm not personally familiar with that board, so maybe you can find some info.

Thanks for helping him.

I'm not sure what forms of upscaling ram dividers are available on the 680i. But for starters, does your friend have epp/sli mode turned on? If the 680i has a 1:2 divider in the 1066strap, then it should be able to run 1066 with stock 266fsb. However, there's not much performance to be had then

He should be overclocking his c2d anyway
