WTF!!! http://www.crazypc.com/other/misc/hovermouse.htm

The CrazyPC Hover Mouse(TM) is the world's first 100% friction-less mouse. Utilizing advanced, patent-pending electromagnetic hovering technology, the Hover Mouse floats one centimeter above the mousing surface at all times. It is a well established fact, that friction results in wear to your mouse and decreased accuracy while gaming. Since the Hover Mouse is friction-less wear is eliminated, and in-game accuracy sky rockets. Be the first on your block to own a Hover Mouse! Ideal for all gamers or for those suffering from arthritis!

6000 dpi + wireless seems wrong IMO...

I do like the idea though :toast: :toast:

Hmm i'm wondering how much force it will need to not float and to be put on the mouse mat, i'm skeptical on that it won't work well but nice idea if it does

It will certainly feel strange to rest your hand on a floating mouse...

Cool!
But 1cm when not under the load of your hand?
won't it go down when you put your hand on it?
Cool concept I must say.

:( It would be nice though,if it can resist the weight of your hand whithout touching the pad it would sure be a very cool product/gadget.

What is next,R600 will come boundled with a power supply?

Not that i can prove it but i had this idea prolly like a year and a half ago and eventually thought hmm electromagnet strong enough to hold one's arm up around any kind of magnetic storage might not be the best idea. i've had some good keyboard ideas no ones done yet though.

Even though this isn't real, if it was then you can just open up your friends hover mouse and turn the magnets around and presto! One hover mouse that's stuck to the pad!

electromagnetic... even if it was real, there's no way on earth i'd let anyone get that thing anywhere near my computer. i force my mom to keep her magnetic drive pencil sharpener three filing cabinets away, i'm that paranoid.

that is actually a good idea, remove the cordlessness of it though, and don't make it levitate so high, half a mm would do,

Tight idea, I admit! Too bad it's only an idea. Whoever made one would have to have some seriously explicit disclaimers though, 'cuz they'd get sued outta the dickens from n00bs who put it too close to their computer.

I tried such thing once in a physics lab with giant and very very powerful magnet on an old pc which was turned on. I put it (though with case completely closed) right next to where the HDD should be and the thing stuck to the case like it was thrown at it. Still though the pc worked just fine. I was utterly disappointed.

nowadays it won't make much of a difference at all. it never has had that big an effect on hard drives, and we aren't using CRT monitors anymore, unless you're like me and really hate LCD enough to still use CRT.

it's still not a good idea though. it's a good idea for a hover mouse, maybe, though 1cm is a tad excessive (intentionally, of course), but not for a magnetically hovering one. it'd actually be more economical to use fans to hover it than to use a strong enough electromagnet.

neither are economical though. imagine the fits we're throwing about the optimus or whatever keyboard times a bazillion.

I should also point out that it is virtually impossible to make a mouse "hover" over a single point without moving using plain magnetism. If such a mouse was attempted all that would happen is the mouse would simply shoot away from the mouse pad every single time (which is the same force that actually moves magnetic trains). I don't think that kind of tech will come any soon cause it is virtually impossible to create such thing with so little components and space.

5mm at most i guess.

2 things

fans are noisy.
whay do you need an electromagnet when a standard one would work?

Wouldn't this thing be sliding around like an air hockey puck? Not the best idea of accuracy I would think.
