basically what I want to do is test my components. I have to take appart the entire system again, to do some thermal compound stuff on the motherboard and change the HSF to my Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, but before I do any of these I need to make sure my components are not DOA.

I am currently running memtest86, and I plan to install windows, and run prime95, before I strip the system down to parts.

I have never used prime95, someone please walk me through it.

I read that within an hour of testing, you will eliminate 99.99% of the errors.

I just want something like this, before I actually put my system together for the second time, and do the thermal paste mods, on my chipset and heatpipes.

Is there even a point to do this, if the system boots fine etc?

Here is my system

ASUS P5B-Deluxe
C2D 6400
Team Xtreem PC6400 2gb RAM
Sapphire Radeon X1950XT 256mb
Lian-Li PC60B+2 case
Seagate barracuda 7200.10 16mb cache 300gb SATA HD

Thanks.

What you want is orthos, not prime 95.

1) Open it up, run it for however long you want, (personally, i consider 8 hour stable enough for day to day use). For absolute testing, run two instances with dedicated core affinity (uncheck no affinity, select a core)

Set it to blend btw

Also note that this only test your cpu thoroughly, use superpi 32m for ram
