The title says it all.

if you remove the heatspreader from the mem, is the warranty voided?

a friend of mine removed them and took 3 chips with it. His G.Skill PC6400 is now broken. (offcource :p: )

can he RMA it ?

[sorry for my bad English, I am from holland.]

ok, thank you.

But wy do you take it so seriously?
this is overclocking ram!

mabye it is an idea to introduce overclocking ram with out the heatspreaders, so overclockers can use their own.

My friend wanted to replace the origional heatspreaders for these : http://www.thermaltake.com/product/Cooler/VGAnCHIPnMEM/Memory_cooler/cl-r0026/cl-r0026.asp
But it is simply imposible to remove the origional heatspreader and install an aftermaket cooler becouse it takes the mem chips with it!

Well it takes the chance that you will damage the ram, they should in no way be responisbile for that.
