Hey,

I am currently running a P4 3.2GHz w/ HTT CPU and a friend of mine has an AMD XP-m 2500+ (IQYHA) OC'd to about 2.6GHz (which I understand to be faster than a P4 3.2GHz CPU). I am thinking of getting an AMD XP-m 2500+ processor (I will use ABIT NF7-S v2 mb) and I have this question:

How well will she overclock? IQYHA 0407VPMW 2004 week 07. I believe I read that all processors before 2003 week 39 (0339) were unlocked. This one seems to be after that. But I don't believe it matters because all mobile processors are unlocked, correct?

Also, a side question. How much would you say an IQYHA XP-m 2500+ would be worth these days? Just so I know I won't be overpaying.

And my final question: How well will a
AQXFA 0335RPMW
OC compared to a
IQYHA 0407VPMW
?

Thanks,

What is the model number of your P4 (I.E. P4 530, or P4 630)?

If the P4 has a 1mb L2 cache and HTT it is already faster than even an overclocked XP-M.

Agreed, I upgraded 3 years ago from an overclocked mobile Barton 2500+ (OC'd to over 2.4GHz) to a stock 3.4GHz P4 550, the P4 smoked it in pretty much every benchmark and real world app.

Went from an athlon xp running at 2.2 to my prescott at 3.6 -- worlds of differences, the p4 @ 2.8 and more smoked the xp.

But it is true that a XP-m 2500+ IQYHA overclocked to like 2400-2600 is faster than my northwood?

Thanks for your replies guys!

I also have an XP-M 2500+ IQYHA 0411 I believe, I can run it at 2.6GHz 24/7 and its a great CPU back it up with some nice RAM with tight timings at 240-250MHz FSB and your on to a winner, will be faster than a northwood :)

I can't reply to your specific question but I do have an XP-M 2200+ that I had overclocked to 2.2GHZ for a while and 2.4GHZ for a very short time running an AOpen nForce2 based board in an AOpen EZ-18 barebones. My overclocking was limited due to the horrible cooling of the tiny case but I have since put it in a Lian-Li PC-7BW Plus II and I plan to buy a better cpu cooler and really push the overclocking at some point. My roomate has a P4 based Dell Dimension 8400 with an Intel 925X based mobo and a 3GHZ 530/1 (most likely) or 630/1 based cpu (I forget at the moment) which I upgraded with a gig of Mushkin RAM and a Radeon X800XL. It won't be for a while but I could run some benchmarks at some point and post them up, just let me know what kind you are interested in.

2400 is compareable to stock for the NW, 2600 is a bit faster.

why not just OC the NW though?

Ah, ok.

A XP-M that OCs nice will be a little faster, but not by much.

I am on a DELL. Dell disabled OCing in their BIOS. There is like 100% nothing useful in their bios... seriously... except changing the time and date.

Thanks for your help guys! I actually made a spreadsheet (http://robo.hourbeforedawn.com/random/0126-nerd.png) with some possibly system configurations. Based on the configurations I made, it would cost me about $240 to upgrade to a XP-m system. It would also cost $280 to upgrade to a AMD X2 2800+ Windsor (AM2) w/ AGP motherboard. Why AGP? Because I already have an AGP video card (x1300pro) and I won't be able to afford a PCIe motherboard (~$125 compared to $60 of the AGP MB asrock am2nf3-vista +) and a new PCIe video card ($60-$220)

I can then easily upgrade to an AM2+ motherboard when it comes out, or later on in the year to a PCIe system when I get money from my family for graduation

Does anyone know anything about that mb (asrock am2nf3-vista)? It seems to be the ONLY AM2 motherboard with AGP! It seems to have nice OC features and I haven't read anything bad about their other mobos.

Well, once again, thanks guys!
