This is definitely the future of web programming. Universitys and colleges need to begin teaching this stuff.

IME, Rails is like every other web programming framework - some situations it's perfectly suited for, other situations you're fighting the framework every step of the way. It's a useful tool to have, but it's far from be all and end all of web development.
