sorry to thread crap but there is no purpose here at all......people are better of Folding@Home don't you think
# What's the purpose of this project?

The main purpose of Pi Segment is to propagandize distributed computing in China and to try to encourage making full use of computational resources on personal computers. China has started researches in distributed computing long before and has obtained some achievement, for example the China Grid. But so far, there isn't any formal distributed projects for the public to join in. Obviously, that's really a waste of computational resources. We hope that the public would get to know about and join in distributed computing, through the propaganda of this project.

If only I trusted my CFX-3200 enough to put another CPU into it. It killed my 3ghz 165, and then I put a 3800 X2 that I thought worked into it, and it doesn't. I got another 165 (0615) but I'm not sure I want to put it in that board anymore.

EDIT: I've got both EoN and this running of my 2.8 p4, 3.3ghz E6600, and 3.85ghz E6400. Pi runs when EoN gets the Zzzzzs.

Everyones does DC for their own reason. The value of a project is theirs to make. Some, as here in the Vault, choose to work for a points goal to raise our team,XS in position.

At the present that is my position, here is our stats;

http://www.dc-vault.com/showteam.php?team=311

as you can see we are at #11, we can be higher. As we gain position, maybe we will attract new crunchers and make the team stronger. As the teams gains strength, we will be able to participate in the more"worthwhile":) projects with greater strength.

You can see by my signature the variety of projects I particiate in.

The Pi is also good for some individual points for DCR rank. They go in the Math1 column for this project http://stats.free-dc.org/users/dcr.php?page=overall&t=XtremeSystems. Yep, come get some Pi.

I've been running this on the c2d(when it's on) and have gathered a few points, I guess the scoring is 1 wu = 1 point? which is sensible I suppose :p:. It's a good little project now that you can actually view their website and XS is already 7th and 1st in the dailies :D.

Found a thread on PI Segment's forum regarding manually configuring the client for multiple core usage.

http://www.equn.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=14352&fpage=1&sid=q4yrLI

In a nutshell:

-Stop client
-Edit config.ini
-Find all occurances of "Affinity" and change the value using:

--1 = use only core #0
--2 = use only core #1
--3 = use both core #0 & #1
--4 = use only core #2
--on up using binary addition... 4 or more only for use with quad-core or dual rig with 4 or more logical processors.

-Restart client

My output will be down for the next couple of days. I'm moving some hardware around. Getting ready to sell some stuff to fund a new build.

We are usually #1 in the dailies, but it would be nice to get a few more people on this project and go for the top spot. I'm definitely game for that !

I think another 1K in vault points is doable. The #1 team[AMD users] are quite a bit ahead and have upped the beat so their daily is about what ours is.

I have a project going in ABC that will finish the 14th. I will move one more dual core[maybe 2] and gain another 100+/- points per day per box.

We may have seen the highest that ABC can provide us points wise. The #1&2 teams have gotten away from us and #3 is double out total and RAC. We could hold off the other teams with a minimal effort and settle in at #5.

What other Boinc project can we look at that can provide us with points for vault? I have about 20 boxes that I can move around. About a dozen are committed to the projects in my sig, and I have 5 at WCG, and 6 at PI segment.

I joined the team in OGR-25, which brought us up 13 spots in that project, and I'll continue to run that on my E6600 for the time being. I guess we'll see how many points OGR-25 has the potential to get us soon.

DO, I am glad you guys run the non-boinc projects. Most are a pain to set up and run, especially for as many as I have. I will work as much boinc as I can, it is easy to change and I can do it quickly...if needed.

With a little work[and some more help, maybe:D] we will move on up in the vault.

Umm mike looks to have quit the Pi Segment Team according to free DC stats

[XC] gomeler

I think he has quit DC all togther considering how his entire sig is gone and I haven't seen him around today :( I really hope this isn't true, it sure seems like our DC-vaulters are dropping like flies.

Damn we lost another one! This is getting out of hand, anyone know why he left? I don't know how to contact him otherwise I'd ask him.

Who else did we lose ?

Gomeler might have been talking about Jose, but it looks like Jose is at least back crunching for us. I noticed a certain "Diablo Legion" in the stats for Eon. :)

I think I'm going put my 3.7ghz 6400 on Pi Segment instead of Eon, to try to get our places back to where they were.

EDIT: I hope that Mike still posts around, even though he's gone to other crunching pastures.
