I had an issue where my desktop icons would keep refreshing. It got on my nerves so I did some research on the issue. It turns out that you need to increase your icon cache size and it will remedy the problem.
To do so:
Open Regedit
Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\explorer
Then add the following STRING value:
"Max Cached Icons"="2048"
More details are here (http://tinyurl.com/33cn52). Some people recommend changing the value to "4096" or "8192" instead of "2048".
