it really depends on what you are looking for.

a Vantec Tornado(or the Sunon variant) pushes a lot of air, but it's noisy. of course you could get a rheostat or baybus and adjudt the fan to your liking. the Tt SF2 is adjustable, and pushes a good amount of air according to the specs, but Tt has been known to "overrate" their fans. or you could go the quiet route and pick up a Panaflo L1A, but i've heard Thermalright HSFs work best with high flow fans.

The SmartFan II is pretty expensive, but IMO it's worth it. Not real sure which fan is the best for the money though. They are all grouped together in the same price range so there isn't much fluctuation there. I would just say go with the Smart Fan. :)

Just posted this over at the other thread.

Get the Sunon Tornado. I have a couple (80mm & 120mm)
and they are loud. But they move some SERIOUS air too.:D

The noise can be tamed, almost silent, with a $2.99 rheostat.

* 80mm X 38mm - Sunon Tornado * (http://www.bestbyte.net/Product.cfm?ProductID=923&CategoryID=8&Keyword=) = $9.75
As you know, the Vantec Tornado are just Sunon fans with a different
sticker and higher price.

* 5w-100ohm Rheostat * (http://www.jameco.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/jameco/searchResult.d2w/report?sort=BPA&search=140513&Go.x=24&Go.y=4) = $2.99 .
These are cheaper and much more sturdy that those plasic Zalman
"FanMates".:)

Hope you find those useful ........ good luck! .......;nnock:D

I have a vantec 80mm 80.4 cfm tornado. It is something like 56 dbs. I got a nexus fanbus because i was sick of hearing the noise, especially when i am seeing cool tems with it on low. If you could afford it i would get the tornado + fanbus. that way the tornado can be as quiet as any other fan, but if you don't mind it can push more air than any other fan. It can be slowed down, but others can't be sped up:D

You gotta go with the Smart Fan II. Buyxg.com has them for $5 and it comes with a rheo and pushes almost as much as the sunon at max. Best fan ever...

Ive ordered things twice. THe first time they were very polite and asked if they could send a radeon 9700 gold instead of regular 9700 because they were out of stock. The second time my cathode broke in the mail and they overnighted another the next day. I totally reccommend them.

sound pretty good. If all you are ordering is a $5 fan it realy doesn't matter that much anyway. Sounds like they deserve a higher rating.

Some people are complaining about the shipping on the fans but they arent that much for me.

I just ordered 2 of the Theramaltake SmartFan II from bestbyte.net for $7.99 each with $1.00 shipping per fan!

http://www.bestbyte.net/Product.cfm?ProductID=884&CategoryID=8&Keyword=

So two fans cost $17.98 delivered, and they take PayPal!

BuyXG has them for $5 each but shipping is $11 for two...so total is $21.

Plus the reselerratings and personal experience tell me to stick with bestbyte.....they seem like another great company!

I ordered my 2 fans last wednesday, and they are yet to be shipped out. This is the same thing that happened to me the last time i ordered from them. Their shipping is quite terrble. I wish some other place had it for that cheap, so i wouldn't have to support them.

Which shop did you order from?

I've had great service from:

- http://www.newegg.com [ obviously! ]

I have avoided buyxg.co [buyextremegear.com ] because their resellerratings was very bad.

I was refering to buyxg.com. Half of the posts in this thread are about them. I don't like them, it takes a month for them to ship your item. I had an item go on back order from the last time, and they did not notify me for 3 months. 3 MONTHS!!! It took them almost a year to give me a refund. I should never have tried them again.

I had originally ordered it at svc, but it went out of stock, so i cancelled it an ordered it from buyxg. At this point it would have been faster if i had waited for svc to get them back in stock.

Boy am I glad that I avoided buyxg.com!!! They sound like another greedy and uncaring retailer.

I'm not trying to rub salt in the wound, I ordered two of the Thermaltake Smnart Case Fan II from bestbyte.net this morning at 9:22 am MST............and they shipped 4 hours and 9 minutes later with email confirmation and delvery confirmation #.

$7.99 per fan plus $1.00 shipping per fan [First Class Mail ]

Or bestbyte has a flat $5.00 Fedex/ UPS ground fee...so if I needed more than 4 fans or other stuff I would have placed the order that way.

2 SmartFan II cost me $17.98 shipped.

smart fan is a good performer but in terms of "absolute" silence isnt great. It has some ball bearing noise and thats pretty annoying if you have some silent rig .. a 92mm panaflo would be great, especially for an intel solution.

The Smartfan II's came in, bestbyte .net was great!

The fan even at full speed isn't obnoxious...I hear it but its not unpleasant.

I don't mind the smf2 noise that much. I would not want it at full speed because of the noise, but the fan in my pcp&c psu is probably louder.

Update:

After using them for a few months, I really like the TT Smartfan II, and the Zalman FM1 80mm and FM2 92mm fans.

I have yet to find a super deal on Panaflo or Pabst...so I've yet to try them.

many tt smart fan 2 is sweet. I don't need the power though. I matched the sound level to the fan that is in my pcp&c psu, which is pretty loud, so that it dosen't raise the noise level in the room. I have my 1700 dlt3c 0319 running at 11.5*225 right now, completely prime stable. The highest temp I have seen is 44c on my nf7-s with my slk900(u).

I like the 900u...but I'm always suprised how room temperature affects CPU temps. And also how Abit keeps changing how the BIOS measures and reports temps!

As you well know, the Vantec Tornado are nothing more than
high flow Sunon with a different sticker and higher price.
Look for the 38mm thick models.

So far KD Computers has served me well.
Sunon 120mmx38mm 4- Wire 108 CFM (http://www.kdcomputers.com/eui/prime/profile/27/24/component.htm).

But to be honest, I have found a 120mm fan that I like MUCH
better. The 3 blade Nidec Beta 5 (#B34262)
At 130cfm they move more air than the Sunon
and have a lower frequency sound which is more pleasing to the ear.:)

Get them * here * (http://sales.goldmine-elec.com/prodinfo.asp?prodid=7958).
One for $5.95. Or two for $10.
Yes, they are ball bearing fans!:)

Good luck! .................. .nnock:D

I love my panaflo! Quiet and fast.
