No higher than a cdrom, preferably not higher than a 3.5" HDD.

Smaller is even better. Tiny, tiny, tiny. 50,000+ hours MTBF.

12v is ideal probably. Not exactly sure yet, so just give me links to tiny pumps!

DDC's failure rate concerns me. Its also too large. Footprint needs to be half that of a DDC at most probably.

DDC is the smallest pump out there. I dont know of any smaller that will push enough water

Laing are the only company who'll provide 50,000 MTBF. No other 12v pump manufacture does that I'm aware of. Stock 10w DDC is your only real choice here I'm afraid... and it DOESN'T have massive failure rates... the DDC2 tends to have high failure rates, but stock 10w versions these days are good solid pumps. The original batches had their flaws, but they've been corrected now.

Marci is the DCC-2 the same as the Ultra?

Yes

Thanks

/me looks nervously at DCC-2 on table about to go into new build! :)

Their failure rates are high in comparison to a DDC's failure rate, however, it is still a VERY low number out of the total sold...

The DangerDen MagII LE might work.. but the way the barbs are would cause problems :(

The DangerDen MagII LE might work.. but

...is currently discontinued by DD due to reliability issues and extremely high failure rates.

I have a pump smaller than the DDC already.. PondMaster PM2 (found in the Coolermast Aquagate ALC-UO1) but its still a bit large...

Can be seen here a little over 1/2 way down the page: http://www.azponds.com/subpumps.htm

"All Pondmaster pumps are suitable for statuary, fountains, ponds, and/or aquariums, anything with low head heigths. These are not high pressure pumps."
what are you trying to cool?

Gotta be other alternatives out there??

I can probably make the DDC work... I think. Anyone got exact specs on its physical dimensions?

62mm x 62mm x 38mm according to this page: http://209.85.165.104/search?q=cache:uykN09zsuacJ:www.coolercases.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl%3FPRODREF%3D264%26NOLOGIN%3D1+DDC+dime nsions&hl=en&gl=ca&ct=clnk&cd=4

I assume those are the same, too lazy to check ;)

I'll need to find a screwdriver and take measurements of where I want it to go... extreme space constraints :(

EDIT - Yeah, 62mm = 2.44"

62/25.4=2.41 so 62mm is about 2.41 inches. 38/25.4=1.54 38mm is about 1.54 inches. Hmmm...

There's a sketchup model of the DDC available at SCC (http://scc.jazzle.co.uk/cat/47). Great for planing layouts!

I did some measurements.

It will not fit where I wanted it (well, it would with some cutting......) but I found a better location anyways. Now I can change it out easily.

How loud are they at 5v?

i'm not sure if they will run at 5V!!! If you care about silence, then a 10W ddc is for you. Give it 8-9V or something.

A DDC, just like most of the other commonly used DC pumps, will not start at 5V.

I believe one of the pages I found while digging said it was rated at 5-12v.

I'll have to get something to turn it down from 12v, need pretty close to silent operation.

Also need to find a radiator that is 5cm x 21cm or so.. or make one :p

You could get glass or something and make a box for it. Put holes in for the nozzles, you know.

It wont run at 5v. I think it states 6-12v IRRC but it wont go that low. Probably start at 12v and turn down to 9v is the best you'll get. BUT if you damp it, it is quiet enough for all but bats with stethoscopes anyway

omfg what are you talking about? Dampening it doesn't get rid of all the noise. Well a 10W DDC probably isn't that loud in the first place. You need soundproof insulation to get the pump any quieter.
