I believe I've come to the conclusion with ofcourse none of anandtech's help that it'd be better for me to run my system with 4 512MB modules than 2 1GB modules. I've posted on numerous forums on what I should do about getting 2 1GB modules or 4 512MB modules and I was told 2 1GB modules would be less stressful and run faster. The problem with this is that these people only had AMD 64 in mind with it's inability to handle more than 2 dimms at a time, otherwise resulting in a performance decrease. I asked what was faster 2 dimms or 4 dimms on an intel 875p/865 based board and they unanimously said that 2 dimms was faster.

What frustrated me the very most, again this claim isn't entirely verified (and I'll explain later as to why) is that anandtech did a review back in '03 (before I joined) showing that those systems benefit from having all 4 dimms populated and that it was only in certain circumstances was there a performance decrease, and was minimal at that. Also it showed the overclocking performance APPEARED to have been minimally effected, hard to know though since they weren't able to clock very high in the first place. Having read that, I noticed they only tested with 256MB dimms and not 512MB dimms, so at this time I still don't know what 2 512MB dimms vs 4 512MB dimms is like.

With that in mind, what would be the best DDR 512MB modules for overclocking I can get? I've done plenty of research and have read numerous articles but it would be nice if some of the posts supported what I was thinking..

imzjustplayin For what do you need mem? If benching and if you can use 3.0v for vdimm - Geil GX21GB8500PDC (based on D9GCT).

overclocking. Since I've had many issues with my Mushkin Redline XP4000 2GB kit, I believe I'd be best off with a 4X512MB set. I'm trying to 'plan' on the memory kit I'm going to buy in the event that my Crucial Z503 PC4000 2GB kit doesn't work as well since I'm anticipating it not working either.. I believe my overclocks would work best with 4 512MB modules instead of 2 1GB modules since the max I can get is 230MHZ stable but 275MHZ unstable, odd ain't it? I want the modules that can at the very minimum provide the best timings at 250mhz. Otherwise I want the fastest module out there, I'm avoiding 3-4-4-8 modules unless it's 3-4-4-8 at some speed like 280 or something like that..
I've noticed that a lot of the 2GB kits manage to get 3-3-3-8 timings at speeds in excess of 280mhz. If I can get a kit that can do 2.5cas at 250mhz, that'd be pretty sweet.

If I do get watercooling for this system (please don't flame), I want to be able to clock it as high as possible. I'm Running an IC7-G with a P4 2.8C 30 capper, I don't want to encounter a situation where I can clock higher but because of the memory, I have to use divider (cringe).

Edit: max is 2.8v for the mobo

I'd look for some TCCD memory (DDR1, if I correctly understand your post) ;)

I'm really asking for is some specific models, like OCZ PC3200 Platinum Rev 2, etc.. TCCD is vague and also I don't believe they had very tight timings at high speeds but I dunno...

Is decent TCCD, some of the only stuff left.

Is reasonable BH-5, but I can't guarantee how high it will go, BH-5 likes tight timings but often won't push DDR550 other than in benching. It also takes 3.1v+

You can also try:

Really, TCCD does loose timings and high mhz. BH-5 does tight timings at lower speeds. In the end, BH-5 generally wins, but they are really about equal.

1Gb Kit Team Xtreem Appolo 2.5-4-4-8 (TCCD) PC4800

Noted.. What are some other high performing TCCD modules? What was up with TCCX modules anyways?

Personally, I like BH5 over TCCD, but you do need to supply them with enough volts to do any "serious" overclocking (3.0v and higher). With that said... here's another 1GB TCCD kit from Corsair.

TwinX1024-4400C25

TCCD is getting tough to find... BH5 next to impossible. I'm sure youm can locate them on any FS/FT thread in tech forums... but the asking prices are CRAZY! :slap:

I have TCCD, single-side 256 Mb DDR3200 sticks that won't move about 230 MHz.

For the requirements posted I would go with Geil One. BH if you want to use the voltage or TCCD if you want to take it easy.

just a thought but its very tricky to get motherboards intel or amd
to run 4 sticks well... and as far as overclocking them its going to be
truely hit or miss. Heck just getting it to boot will be hit or miss...

I have only seen a very few motherboards that will even run 4 sticks...
though I have not tried it on any 965 based boards but on 3 different 975
board were a nogo, and it never worked for me on any older 875 chipsets...

strange thing is I got one board stable, it was an abit as8/865 though I had
tried it in 2 other as8's and one as8-v and none of them ran any of the ram
in a 4x config... we had 3 different matched sets from the shop of 4x512...
on the boards that did boot we tried every timeing and voltage setting we
could think of and still could not get emm stable... just that one random board lol... And it needed 3.1v to do it...:stick:

The ram we did get working was Geil Golden Dragon PC3500 2 matched kits
of 2x512 =4 sticks of 512...

I wish you the best of luck but would honestly recommend looking for some
good 2x 1GB sticks...
Some of the peeps above had good recommendations for brands ect...

I never had any problems running 4 sticks, except for the Asus A8N-* boards (other A8N* are fine). Almost all my machines had 4 GB or more in the past.

good to hear...

I'm not saying its not possible but if your looking for 100% stability and clockability the percentages are in favor of running 2 sticks...
