ok i find this disturbing, but given asus's track record, not suprising.

to test this you need a passive usb drive, that means one that uses usb power to power the drive.
i have a IDE Laptop hard drive that i use with a "pocket" usb cage.
it basically uses the power from a USB 2.0 port to power the device.
any device that you plug into the wall for power will not prove my theory.

anywho, this drive has two usb plugs on it. 1 is for regular and 2 is for possibly older usb 1.1 ports that cant supply enough power.
i have yet to have a motherboard or laptop that couldnt power this drive properly. meaning it only needed one of the plugs. (its a double headed plug)

well that was until i got this mobo.

this mobo requires two ports to power this device.

if any of you have a similar "passive" device then please test it.

and before you ask no i have not had any of my other 5 usb drives tell me that it had any issues. only this one passive device.

i have never once had to change the usb 5v jumper on a mobo as that is simply used for powering on a mobo via usb. but i suppose if thats what i need to do then so be it.

anyone else come across this ?

oops i forgot,

if i plug this drive into my 4 port POWERED hub i only have to use 1 connector.
again proving the mobo isnt supplying enough power for proper USB 2.0 operations.
it even works on 3 different laptops, and 2 of the pc's at work. (havent tried any other pc's at work)
again showing the mobo doesnt supply enough voltage to the usb ports.
