Ive finally found my old, oh so old 4400 chip (not in my Mesh) and was having a good old look at it, and its the following stepping..::

CCBWE 0517 MPKM (or something)

so sorta thinking that CCBWE chips are bl00ming good, i had a quick peek at the pins, and to my horror, one of the pins was actually missing...

so basically, is there any chance that this CPU will work ??

and can AMD do anything about the lost pin ??

or would it be better as a keychain ??

good chance the chip works fine. Depends on what pin is missing.
Not all pins are necesarry for good functioning

hey
you actually can try to repair it your self.!!!
Ok the think you have to do is. take a paper clip (make sure its copper), cut a piece that is precisely a same size as the pin in your cpu.
then place it in the socket where you are missing the pin and voila chip should work. did this to my xp thunderbird way back and it worked fine.
remember that i cant guaranteen that this will work on the newer chips.

The Fold7 PC in my sig has a 3200+ Winchester that I replaced 3 pins on and it works fine now. Replace the pin if you can. But if you can't do that, don't turn it into a keychain! I'll take it :D I repair that kind of stuff, then put it to use for one of the DC projects :)
I was under the impression that CCBWE steppings were so-so for OC'ing, and CCBBE or CCB1E is much better. When I bought my opteron I was advised to not get a CCBWE because of that and told to get a CCBBE (which overclocks like a dream). I need better cooling to get any higher but I am on stock volts with it still :)

Solarfall, a paperclip is way too thick for those - the pins on the newer AMD chips are a lot thinner, hence also easier to break...

Cat5 solid wire works a treat for them.

I could repair the pin most likely - I've fixed 4 so far - but I'm in the USA so that probably doesn't help you much :(
