In two years trying to find a "home" I'm very grateful Xtremesys exists. I've been around PC's for years but would never participate on the Internet, because I only viewed it as another venue to allow advertisers enter my life. A place where loosers hung out in chat-rooms trying to meet other loosers. I didn't see the point in the information potential, living in Northampton MA, gave me access to a five college system of libraries. Between Amherst college, Smith, Hampshire, Mt Holyoke, and UMass Amherst having Polymer science and Linguistics programs second to none, there were some very good stacks to get into. In fact the UMass library itself (although leaning) is the tallest library in the world. Between the beautiful girls, and looking out over the rolling hills of Western MA, going there was enjoyabe. I digress again.
Anyhoo, I never realized there was such a wealth of information, and so many brilliant people online sharing their experiences in Hardware Forums. I wrongly thought the Internet was for loosers, shut-in's who had no social life. And being into surfing, skiing, and mountain biking, I wasn't around PC's, as my life took on other outdoor hobbies, or lifestlye. But when I broke my back racing mountain bikes, the Internet became my saving grace. When I first broke my back, I was laid up looking out my window over Provincetown harbor swallowing about 300mg of MSContin daily (Morphine Sulfate Continuous Release) I became emotionally and physically addicted to Fentynal, Morphine, Oxicodone, and Dilluadid. It took me a year to realize my back wasn't going to heal, and I had to stop dreaming that I'd move back to Hawaii and everything would be better.
So I put my energy into writing, and re-discovered the "tool" I was using was itself fascinating. I started to game with my PC, and I guess you can all imagine where it went from there. Once you start buying $300 videocards, you want to know "why" your paying $300 for that videocard? And once I started overclocking, I dove into it, like I did that bottle of Dilluadid. Except without the negative side effects. I rarely feel constipated (although my bandwidth does) and I don't have to call my Pain specialist (Dr.) at his home on Sunday anymore.
Basically I want to say, thank you to everyone here. You may not know this, but you all have been a part of my recovery, and my finding pleasure in the technical world of overclocking. This is not a venue for "loosers" in fact there are some of the most intellectual people here, in the country. There's years of erudition, and practical experience, as well as completely cutting edge designs. Where else will you find people talented enough to build their own Phase-Change systems, machine their own H20 blocks, and make microprocessors and IC's run at double the manufacturers specified rate? You guys (and girls) have taught me more then perhaps any other hobby. As much as High End Audio (Audiophilia) and my field of study Neurophilsophy, this is the most esoteric pursuit I've ever undertaken. The abosolute greatest benefit, has to be the relationship which exists between Computer Science, and Neuroscience/Neurophilosophy. I run PDP (Parallel Distributive Processing) software which emulate's the strength ratio's among neuronal synpatic firing rates. Only the computer can accomplish this modleing.
My bottom line is this, Xtremesys, is the place to be if you want to "hang" with thwe absolute best. And what I admire most about you all, is your pateince and modesty. You don't flaunt your acheivements, and you always take the time to help noobs like myself. So I sincerely want to thank you all. You have all made life much more interesting. Thank you.
BTW the whole reason I wrote this was to say I like the new GUI on the front page! Oovee
