it is impossible to identify the core stepping of a p4 from the info on it's heatspreader, correct? you actually have to install the cpu to find that info.

You can identify if the stepping is a B0 or C1 by the voltage listed on the cover 1.5v is B0 1.525 is C1, Also the Caps on the bootom side will tell you. 15 = B0, 12 = C1.

ok thanks. is it possible to tell the stepping of a cpu by its retail box? if i am looking at a retail box, can i tell the stepping of the cpu?
