have a "Sound Blaster Audigy, DR release 2.9.16" sound card and when i was cleaning my old PC from all of the dust and crap that was in there i removed the card and i think i must have put it back into a different PCI slot and now it refuses to work or even play any sound at all.
when i double click on a mp3 or audio file it just crashes the player and does not play. but when i play a video it plays but just with no sound
this is really bugging me now

now actually after trying to play video that doesn't even work now and also crashes the player

what can i do?
any help will be greatly appreciated

thanks
rajan

Try to put it back in the PCI slot it was before, or try to reseat it.
SB cards can be very picky if not properly inserted into the PCI slot.
I had that happen pretty often with them.

i think it is too late for that because i have tried all of the slots on my mobo after trying to reinstall the card so i pretty much screwed up that option. :(

how did you solve the problem then? (if changing slots did not work)

You might have to manually assign its IRQ resources. Look under System > Hardware > Device Manager, and Properties of your sound card, and it should tell you what IRQ bus it's assigned to, so try to manually assign this IRQ to whichever PCI slot your soundcard is in. Also make sure onboard audio is disabled.

it says PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 0, device 14, function 0) which is the slot it is in, no onboard audio

just double checked and it is in the 3rd PCI slot from the top

uninstall sound card drivers, reboot, and reinstall sound card drivers.
