I have no idea if like most ES chips the multis on these Q6600 ES chips are unlocked. I'm really hoping it is because I'm using an ECS reference 680i board and it's a piss poor FSB overclocker with my kentsfield.

who wants to see me strip the IHS off another quad core?? :slobber: :slobber: :slobber:

Maybe I can write up a better guide if I'm able to successfully pull it off twice in a row.

nope, no upwards multi's for you... and on a 680i with a quadcore, that's a rainy day.

Aw Balls! I guess I can't really feel TOO unfortunate here *looks over at his X6800, QX6700, and the empty spot waiting for a Q6600*... But still. It's a shame to be not getting the full potential from my setup... I just wish I didn't buy into nVidia's SLi marketing hype. Then I'd be able to throw my Bad Axe 2 back in my system and everything would be rosy...

it depends on the stepping if it is b0 it should come with unlocked multi, if it is B1, B2 or B3 is locked

Any chance you can record the footage and ill host it on my server? :)

I have Q6600 ES and it's locked. And yes the 680i absolutely sucks for overclocking the kentsfield. I've managed only a 312Mhz FSB with any stability. "rainy day" you say? more like a F#%ing torrential down pour...:(

The chip will do almost 4ghz in my ASUS P5B deluxe though....

I've got a Q6600 ES B0 on a NF68. Want me to check if the multiplier is locked?

If so, how do I do that? (Forgive the n00bishness... I'm just re-entering the OC world after a long hiatus and am still learning how to do it in this new environment.)

Just go into your bios and see if you can set the multiplier higher than 9. Reboot and see if it stays at the higher value. My Q6600 ES is B3 step 7. I can raise the multi, but it will not stay at any setting over 9.

i got a kent 6600 b0

on a reference 680i it has unlocked multiplier (6 to 60) but the QDR is locked @ 1066mhz
on a p5b Dlx it has locked multiplier ( 6 to 9 ) and the QDR is also locked @ 1066mhz

wierd thing.

I've got my multiplier at 12x right now and am stress testing. I've had it at 11x (2934) and it was 4xPrime 10hr stable. FSB is 1066 at a 1:1 ratio with my memory.

I just installed an Ultra120 w/Mineaba 119High fan (much better than the old Zalman 7700 that I had) and so far the stress testing looks good. I'll have a different thread for that though. No hijacking here! At least, not yet. ;)

Wow where do all of you get your ES chips! You can't buy them; they're forbidden to be sold! Where? Are you guys all Intel testers?

LOL I didn't know that the CPU multiplier's locked in non-EE CPUs. I can definitely confirm that my B0 stepping has an unlocked multiplier. I'm currently running stability tests on a 11x multiplier with a 300FSB for 3300.

I was stable at 11x266 prior to this before I realized that I wasn't OC'ing the traditional way by upping my FSB.
