This was posted on another forum. I thought some of you in the market for computer speakers might be intersted as well.

Before purchase:

My new computer speakers:

I've set-up a few final cut editors with M-Audio monitors, they sound great for their price. Every computer speaker that I've heard has tin can sound and boomy bass. I'd like something that I can listen too loud without my ears hurting. These should do the job.

To augment the bottom end I have a 15" Dayton DVC subwoofer in a 5 ft^2 ported box tunned to 22 Hz power by a 600w QSC amp, I can blend it in with the monitors around 50 hz.

If $270 is too steep, they make another pair sold on Amazon for $75.

After first listen:

I got them in.

They basically exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were pretty high.

They throw a pretty sweet image, even at low volume like I have them right now. They have plenty of power, you could probably use them for a 2/5 channel system in a home theater in a small room like an apartment. Even at high volume they aren't harsh on the ears like I was expecting, I love soft dome tweeters.

These things are great value. You get bi-amped (75w total per channel), 2-way with 4th order Linkwitz-Riely active xover, toroidal transformer (clean power), high-end audiophile quality drivers: woven kevlar woofer + silk dome tweeter (look at that surround), high quality contruction throughout, 3/4" MDF cabinent! That's a lot of stereo for $260!

They don't have much response below 50 Hz, as expected, what do you expect for a 5" woofer. The bass is very detailed and punchy. If you want more bass add a subwoofer. I'll be content listening to them this way for awhile though! They should integrate with my subwoofer nicely.

Anyone one reading considering thes speakers for computer computer monitors. Setting them up isn't difficult. All you need to make them work with your computer is about $10 worth of parts from radioshack, mono 1/4" to RCA adaptor and a stereo make 1/8" to rca adaptor. It really helps to have a high quality sound card also. I got my Soundblaster Live 24" for $10 at Fry's a few years ago. Set-up is easy, just hook up two power cables and the aforemention apaptors and wires, turn the volume knobs and you're running!
