They are trying to bring the value of the X2 3800 closer to the E6300.

The E6300 of course performs a bit better ( and overclocks much better) than the 3800, but it costs $50 more.

Maybe now that 65nm is coming, they want to get rid of the rest of the socket 939 stock. Or is that AM2 only with the price cut?

Not in Canada.

AM2 X2 3800 is at 181 CAD
E6300 is at 218 CAD.

I hope it does drop to 150ish. Then,I'd grab one.

The X2 Amd 939 processor is going down in volumes and will only be harder and harder to get.

But why do you want a x2 3800 when you can get a Opteron 165 for the same Price:confused:.

Yeah only TWO shops even on pricewatch are showing 939 X2 3800's. That is simply amazing as you can still find all sorts of socket 754 chips around. Even the 4200+ is only listed @ 3 places. It's like AMD told them to not advertise stock or something. NO way all those chips are out of the supply chain already. I guess wait for Xtreme members to sell theirs ;-).

AMD is slowly alienating the very good customers that bought socket 939 systems, as if they wish for us to buy C2D's.

I have noticed the AM2 prices falling too. In the UK the EE X2 3800+ Retail is by far the cheapest AMD X2 CPU. It's even less than the regular X2 3800+ too.

absolutely what I'm thinking.
another stupid move by AMD in the current situation, they are nearly forcing S939 owners to switch to Core2Duo.
the only 939 X2s available here are $400+... ridiculous! All lower Opterons out of stock.

i just got a quick question i have about these since i'm getting close to buying one

what's the difference between the 65w CPU and the non-65w cpu?

i'm guessing the 65w cpu is better coz it uses less power from the psu?

Its because it's S939 which they'll stop making very soon.

939 is dead, and AM2 blows, doesn't leave you with to many options if your looking to upgrade does it. I wish I would have gone to Core2 as opposed to this crap AM2 that I currently own. Sorry AMD you guys are going to lose another consumer of your product. :slapass:

I assume that was directed at me? I bought a 3200 Sempron to see if there was anything I was missing on the AM2 platform. I figured that the BioStar TForce 6100 and the Sempron would easily let me get to 2.8GHz stable. I was wrong. I'll be lucky to hit 2.6GHz stable. My old 2800 754 Sempy ran 2.84GHz for 8 months and had better SuperPi times then I'm getting with this system. Meh,I'm just going to snag a E4300 when they come out. See ya AMD

This is how I see it......

754=Born before 939 but 939 outgrew his big brother so he was 754's bigger little brother. AM2 is just an beaten,adopted,red-headed kid. :p:

And the hundreds of thousands of us who put money into S939 just got beaten ;-).With no 65nm for us on S939 I say screw it, I'll buy Intel. Haven't owned one since my P3-800 that did 1.2hz with a leufkins peltier (oh the days....) but after seeing the 8800GTX comparison between X2 and C2D at Tom's Hardware I'm sold, literally.

LOL @ "skyrocketing downward"

Doesn't skyrocketing imply an upward direction?
