maybe if they get their asses kicked in the GPU market, they'll put more of a focus on their chipsets.
can you imagine how good they might be? :D

ok, so no more hair dryer cooling.
it might overclock well. is it using the .13 micron process?
the specs are not as high as the 5800? just double memory? so it should have some overhang to OC?

i.e. if the card is using memory rated faster but is downclocked because im sure the 5900 is using slower memory speed than 5800? but has double memory to make up for it but if it was using same memory as 5800 ud be able to get the 5900 up to same me speed as 5800

it's got a 256 bit memory bus, the 5800 had a 128 bit bus. i'm not sure but the extra complexity there may make it more difficult to overclock.

5800 uses 128bit DDR2 memory, 5900 will use 256bit DDR1 memory. The memory on the 5900 will not have much room for ocing, since it is supposed to be running at close to the speed limit of DDR1 memory. Still the 5900 will have plenty o bandwidth at its speed. As far as the core, it still puts off a lot of heat, and requires a large heatsink, so I dont think it would OC all that much...

the memory on the 5900 cards is rated at 2.2ns =454mhz
but that doesnt mean that the memory can really run @454 mhz... memory companies tend to sell memory that is rated to run @ a certain speed but downclock it because it doesnt run stable. just like amd relabels high end cpus that dont run their speed at default voltage to low end cpus. (my xp1700+ is a relabeled 2600+ for example)
so i guess they wont oc a lot, at least the first revisions.

edit: when you think about it though, after a couple months the ti4200's become stupidly fast. maybe nvidia needs a little time. i'm not gonna hold my breath though

i think it will do just fine once the cilicon matures and the yeld goes up it will clock well enugh. look at it like this if you are a 3d mank fan, the fx out performs the 9800 at stock clocks but the 9800 overclocks like crazy. so id say it should make for a very good match.
