Dont recommend Alienware, i'll hurt you.

Dont recommend a Mac if the CPU is soldered onto a daughterboard or anything. Must be able to run WinXP or Vista.

Dont recommend anything that does not have upgradeable graphics.

The requirements it must meet:

1680x1050 or better 17"+ screen

LGA775 Core 2 Duo compatable OR AM3 (yeah, right).

Upgradeable graphics.

Decent heatsinks (known units preferred, will research unknowns)

Decent keyboard (no tiny useless keys....)

So far the only one i've found is the Sager 9890, but it is unknown if it can support core 2 duo (officially or not, doesnt matter as long as it works really). I dont really care for size or weight, i'm not scrawny and this machine is replacing all my other machines (expect my server) so it will perform everything and do so well. I will not except underperforming hardware!

The Alienware m5750 is going back for refund. Too many problems with it.

Would a Sager NP5760 suit your needs?

17" WSXGA+ or WUXGA screen
Core 2 Duo
Discrete graphics (7950GTX)
No idea about heatsink
Full keyboard with numpad

I'm looking for a nice labtop like that too. But I doubt you will find one with upgradeable graphics. It's one of the major flaw of buying a labtop. Also I heard DX10 card wont be available for labtop until next June. It might be worth to wait if you dont need it right now. At the moment that Sager NP5760 looks pretty sweet tho. Although I wish it had a better looking case like the Asus G1.

Upgradeable graphics?! Can you post a link to one laptop that has upgradeable graphics. This looks like a nice laptop:

Did you bother to look up any laptop mentioned so far moddolicous? Every single one has upgradeable graphics. So does the current Alienware i'm using (5750, rebadged sager with a different case pretty much..)

Do the Dells? You can get pretty good deals on them if you look for coupons.

The issue you'll run into in the end is the LGA775....I'm not sure if any laptop does that right now....not with Merom being at 2.33GHz.

Socket S1 isn't fully compatable with AM3, so the advisable thing to do is to wait about 3 months for your laptop

Vapor - Sager 9890 does 775 (mentioned in post #1), but 915 chipset and C2D capablity unknown because of VRM requirements...

I assume there may be a possibility to mod the mobo for C2D support, but... yeah.

There are a number of 775 ones i've found actually, but I think they all pretty much use the same mobo and may just as well be rebadged Sager units. Alienware, VoodooPC, Falcon NW....

NN - Would love to wait, but I use my laptop for everything. Of course if I get some FB-DIMM's I can just use my server maybe... but thats nearly 200lb to lug around for lans lol.

what about this it's portable and you could probably get a full tower system inside with a bit of modding ;)
