0602 is already out? I still prefer 0408.

What makes 0602 "mega crappy"?

Personally I use v0005. I am not 100% sure that I have tested v0507 but I think that one had problems with multipler over 10? I could set it higher in BIOS but within Windows it looked like it was back at 10. You may want to try that?

I am still waiting for a descent BIOS.

That is of course if Asus gives a :banana::banana::banana: enough to fix it :slapass:

I had the same problem: all ends with the ASUS splash screen.
I pulled all the cards (except video), removed the backup battery and cleared the CMOS. Left it for the night and it rebooted and gave me a chance to flash an older bios from a floppy with afudos.
0602 wasn't recognised by the flash utility.

I removed my video card and turned off the PSU, and left it like that overnight... Nothing happened....

Oh well, I paid Asus $20 for overnight shipping and they sent me a new Bios chip. Installed it just now and everything is up and running.

Chip came with Bios 0506....

Thank you for posting BIOS 0604 to DL.

Flashed to 0604 and after a few hiccups getting my settings back to where i had them I've now been able to get to 400x9 fsb with 1.48 voltage.

Was also finally able to push my Mushkin DDR2-800 to 1000Mhz @ CL4 on 4/5 strap.

My only issue that seems to remain is Orthos stability...hopefully someone can help me figure out why everything else I run does so with complete stability.
SuperPi, PCMark05, 3DMark06, 3DMark05&03, along with games such as UT2k4 play for hours with no issues...but Orthos fails on my pc in a matter of seconds. :(
Any thoughts and advice?

My P5WDG2 is stable to 400 and I can run orthos blend priority 9 for days. But bump the RAM off 1:1 at that high fsb and it dies fast. And I have known good OCing RAM.

Don't worry about the Orthos stability thing if you can do everything else stable.

I cannot get my PC orthos stable either. I can do Dual Super PI 32M 3DMark 06, Prime95, and game for hours. Just no orthos. I can only imagine that it might be a RAM issue, timings, speed....Don't even care to find out anymore....

agreed, at the risk of incurring the wrath of the stability nazis, Orthos only proves one thing, that it is stable under orthos. The load temps it produces are too unrealistic to be any kind of guideline.

What temps are you getting for your 24-7 OC?

TAT and CoreTemp report 8 to 10c lower temperatures than AIBooster.

These idle temperatures are reported by TAT and CT:

3.6ghz Idles 1.375V @ <30c
3.8ghz Idles 1,450V @ <35c
4.0ghz idles 1.520V @ <40c

@ 4ghz I have not been able to complete 3Dmark06. It always freezes @ the CPU test. I have used anywhere from 1.52V to 1.65 just to pass and it simply locks everytime. I'm guessing that my chipset gets to hot @ that speed, besides, my board has no mods and no chipset modification whatsoever....

does anyone now have a quad core 6600 on this board?

as far as 0701 bios, it is fine on my board...it still shuts off on reboot since i am overclocking and does the same when saving changes to the bios.

i can set the FSB to 400 (E6400), memory to "SPD" using DDR800 setting and Vcore to "Auto"...it will post to boot and then run Orthos blend with the Vcore only going up to 1.28v, otherwise the vcore drops to 1.14v for idle conditions...rock solid!

I keep vFSB to 1.4 IIRC and MCH is max. I have been able to get close to 430 fsb, though only 400 is ever stable on my 6600. It's the board/chipset. If you want to push things any further, you likely need unlocked multiplier, but your fsb will probably not go much over 400 in any event.

You know, I just installed a QX6700 on my board and I am using BIOS 0506 and my cold boot problem is gone.

e6600 0506 always cold booted.
QX6700 0506 no cold boots at all whatsoever.

Are there any issues with using 0506 btw with a quad? I notice the listed change on the newest bios is "support for new CPUs".

Also, with 0506 my multis don't go past 12, though I mostly don't care since I am not going to run phase or anything.

I am tempted to not get 0604 and not mess with a good thing, assuming the 0506 BIOS is allowing me to make full normal use of my CPU...

Doesn't allow me to toggle between the cores, stuck on core #1. So it says I am overclocked. That's why quad users tend to CPU-z 1.35.

That's probably because the ColdBoot only start to take effect after a certain FSB, 350+ or 400+ (whatever it is)

I'm guessing your Quad is using a lower FSB that what you had with your previous C2D.

Be very careful with this: I think there is a mixup at ASUS.
The name of the file suggests it is for the P5WDG2-WS-PRO,
but it is found in the directory for the the P5WD64 and that is another beast.

It is also strange that after a 0701 beta they follow-up with 0803 !!

I have been using the 0803 for a while, but I think the 0701 is better, and might go back to it. :)
I have 0803, but havenīt noticed any changes to 0701.
In what way do find 0701 better?

Benches are slightly better (admittedly not by much), and processor runs slightly cooler. :)
