I updated to the latest bios available on asus's website: P5BD0804.ROM.

I can now go over 400FSB but I can't seem to keep it stable. The northbridge gets extremely hot then it crashes on me. How come I see people here running 1:1 fsb without a problem? Are you guys cooling your northbridge as well? I can even run mine at 400FSB. Should I change the northbridge voltage to 1.45? I'm afraid I might burn it.

Right now I'm running 2.7ghz (300x9), 3:5 ratio, mem running at 500mhz since my memory can handle that easily. I used coretemp to measure temp and the cpu runs at 40C on load. Which is pretty cool... I just can't seem to do 400:500 or 500:500. It boots but gets very unstable in windows. I've tried adding more vcore voltage but that doesn't help. I think northbridge is screwing me up.

Please help.

Try not to set any of the voltage settings to max in bios, vmch, vfsb, southbridge....

My board wouldnt either do 400 fsb, but the problem was to much vmch and sb voltage.

try 0614 bios

for only 400 fsb,set everything to auto, including vcore and mem. you may have to bump mem up a bit

I've gone to 500 with everything on auto

once you see where auto sets everything, make notes and bump up a little from there

set your mem to 1 to 1 to eliminate that first and then you will see how much fsb and cpu speed you can get.

also, disable 1394

Is it a deluxe or deluxe wifi?

I have 3 of these boards. 2 are wifi and 1 is not. for whatever reason, the non wifi doesn't get up as far as the wifi's

The problem was everything was on auto... after I went through this guide: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=115217

everything is rock stable... i think.

running 500:500 right now. everything seems to be going good! I love this mobo! =)

but... this is weird

Why is coretemp and orthos showing 4.5ghz when im running 3.0ghz?

Not trying to hijack the thread or anything but how have people still got alive boards with their NB and FSB Term Voltage set to auto, I was running 8x442 last night and something on my board just went to hell, after only a few hours:mad: I have a suspicion its the NB, but cant see any burns....

The NB get's SUPER SUPER SUPER hot. I can't even touch it because it's like 150F, maybe more. If you set it to auto the board will automatically up the amount of juice that's really being pumped into the board. If you're gonna use more than 1.45v on NB I recommend you put a 40mm on the NB or just use the NB cooler that came with the motherboard.

That must of been why my system got ridiculously hot last night then, and failed:(

*Must remember to apply AS5, use cooler and cap the NB voltage!!

My new P5B DLX will be here tomorrow so hopefully my CPU and RAM haven't been damaged by this NB overheating!

Your CPU and RAM should be fine. But I've heard of a lot of boards crapping out because people don't understand that the NB is not meant to be operated at high voltage if you don't have cooler on it.

I'm sure the chipset cooler is keeping contact fine, it's just that it needs active cooling. But AS5 is a plus.

They report default multi x FSB in bios..

Thanks loc, kinda figured that out now. Kinda sucks that they do that. I thought Asus fixed tihs problem already. In their 0711 release.

Hi, I am also new to overclocking and testing my QX6700 on P5B Deluxe, trying to get 400 FSB.

I can't find how to disable 1394, do you mean in BIOS or just by unplugging from the mobo ?

also, I am reading about Auto settings heating up the NB, I only have stock cooling on Northbridge so far so should I limit Volts there to something?

Also, should I change Mem settings from Auto to something and up voltage now or just wait?

really? does disabling 1394 allow for a better OC? I disabled everything else on the Change multi page and some of the stuff on Lan option roms, etc.

Try to run your chip at native multiplier, as multis below native will overclock your Northbridge internal clocks, putting a large strain on it and reducing stability.

You have a 6600, and most people who have it will want to run 400x9 with ram at 500 (4:5 ratio) for higher performance.

Past-400Mhz booting from BIOS will force the NB to switch to 1333 strap with looser timings than 1066 which results in lower bandwidth and performance hit.

So if you want OCing on 1066 strap, boot at 399 in BIOS and raise it in Windows using Clockgen/FSB applications and see how far you can go. On P5B Deluxe most frequent number is about 450Mhz or thereabouts on 1066 strap. If you are lucky you could reach 475 given your CPU can handle it.
