Well since the holidays are coming up and I seem to be downloading alot more and my HD is filling up all to quickly I think its time for me to get another HD. Basically I want something thats going to be atleast 400-500gb that is reliable meaning it wont stop working 3 months down the line and basically has a reasonable price. This secondary drive will be a slave drive and will just have misc. files, more than like all my mp3's, movies, tv shows, etc etc.. I am also wondering whether I should go external or internal, does it really make a difference? Also I have a DFI nf4 Ultra-D mobo.

note: I already have a 250gb WD but when it was formatted for the installation of windows something went wrong or w/e and it only shows 127gb in windows and theres a partition of 109gb that is just sitting there from this bad format. I also am not going to format this drive again as I just don't feel like going through the hassle as I don't want to have to re-install alot of the things I have on here now so thats why I plan on getting another drive.

thanks in advance

Well first off the higher you go in capacity the worse the capacity/$ ratio is. So I would stick to 400 vs 500.

Second, do you care about loosing the data you want to store on this drive?

If not then I would go for a single Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3400620AS 400GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148138)
Although I have to say you can get 2 of those 320gb seagates for roughly the price of 1 400gb drive. That and the public response is superior towards that drive.

If you do care about your data go with 3 Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS (Perpendicular Recording Technology) 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148140) in raid5.

Yea, I recommend the 320gig drive. Depending on your price range, you could get 2, set them up in raid 0 for more space or raid 1 for safety. If I'm not mistaken, raid 5 needs 4 drives  Also, as for your first question, this thread might help you

yea that seage drive does look good and it should last me until i fill it up, im more than likely gonna be just throwing HD movies and shows on there daily so should hold up

as for fixing that problem, if i ran partition magic and merged the two partitions would there be any chance of when its done merging that i have lost data? like it would actually overwrite some of my data?
