View Full Version : MJ12 going slow for me (again)

Hi guys, can anyone lend a hand here?

MJ12 has been fine for the past month or 2, maxxing out my 10mb cable line with ease. I have 10mb (1200kb\s down, and 55kb\s upload)

I recently ditched WVG for F@H, and thats when the problems started, my production went WAYYY down (down to ~2.5gb per hour rather than 4gb per hour)

I realised F@H was the problem, so uninstalled it, and went back to BOINC WCG, and things have improved, but still not running at full speed like it used to. I was previously running MJ12 1.3.2 BETA 1.2 (NET 2.0) and that was the version which ran FINE for me. With the recent problems, I ended up deleting the whole MJ12 folder, and installing the VERY latest beta, and things went even worse.

So....again, I deleted the WHOLE MJ12 folder, and I am now back on MJ12 1.3.2 BETA 1.2 (NET 2.0) which seems to be the best version, which works ok for me. However, even after tweaking all the settings (as before) I cannot get the download speed to increase.

Here are the current settings I am using (as recommended by several XS members)

(I selected UK, FRANCE, and USA for the preferred domains to crawl, as they worked fine before, I am in the UK by the way)

Can anyone help me suss this out :(

Thats not slow. Your using over 6mbit of a 10mbit line and that line may not be a full 10mbit if it's cable and shared.
Those really aren't bad numbers.
My 15mbit/2mbit line will run between 10-13mbit down.

trust me, the 10mb IS 10mb.

it is not shared, and I am very close to the exchange.

I ALWAYS get 1300kb\s on downloads, and it NEVER fluctuates (I have been on 10mb for ~8 months, and ALWAYS get max speed)

and I was ALWAYS getting 10mb on MJ12 till a few days ago :(

so there is a prob with mj12 somewhere....

But do you want MJ12 to use all of the 10mbit?
That's really the point. You need to leave something for surfing, etc.

Yes, I want it to use as much as possible.

There is still enough left for surfing anyway. If I want to do some serious downloading, I can just snooze MJ12 for an hour.

Ok, then I'll shut up on this. My guess is that Modolicous knows more on this app than anyone and will let him jump in.

Edit: try this: bump your connection speed settings up to full T3 for a few hours and see what that does.
My guess is that it will suck that line dry and from there you can just back it off till it uses what you want it to.

60 workers are enough workers to completely saturate (use) a 1mb line. For a 10mb line, you will need ~600 workers to completely use the full 10mb. Set your client to 200 workers and 50 open buckets. It might not use all 10mb, but it will sure use more than before. The settings I sent you didn’t work? Here try these:
Bandwidth check period: 1
Workers: Max (should be 200)
Delay before crawling: 0
Check the "no delay between uploads"
Set upload to high (won’t use a lot more cpu, just helps with uploading)
Dictionary size: 8mb
Try those and report back.

When might I see some more results from that BEAUTIFUL Setup  :help:

On a different note I was going to say something about setting, but Joe beat me to it :D

Some other thoughts: check what your CPU utilization is (watch the CPU from ctrl-alt-delete for awhile and see, my 'avg' is about 3-5% for mj12node.exe)

Try setting affinity to 'CPU 1' only and see if that helps.

Also make sure your registry is clean after deinstalling F@H
(Hey if you feel gutsy, the priority & affinity settings may get you so you CAN co-exist w/ FAH  )

Let us know

How can i delete the F@H registry things?

I go start-->run-->regedit, and I can see all the F@H entries, but when I try to delete them, it doesnt let me.

Any ideas?

Edit: its also only still running @ 600kb\s roughly, out of my 1200kb\s total :S

in the older versions (ie beta 1.2) it simply could *not* get above 6mbit of usage. get the latest good beta, 1.3.5 beta 4.2 .NET 2.0.

Yeah, thats the one I am using now (1.3.5 BETA 4.2 NET 2.0)

Gonna give it a few hours to get run in, and see what my speed averages out at.

fingers crossed

Is it keeping up w/ the D/Loads?

Seemed to be the biggest PITA about doing this is to actually REPORT the results :brick:

yeah my machine is keeping up with the uploads just fine :)

My upload is just about quick enough that I don't normally get more than 6-10 uploads queued at once.

I seem to be stuck at just under 8mb

could it be my Linksys WRT54GS router that is faltering under the massive amount of connections:slapass: ?
