Is the Radeon 9800 pro definitly worth the extra $100 over the 9700 Pro?

I have to buy a vid card this week.. is the 9800 pro really worth the extra $100 over the 9800 Pro? I dont really have the extra $100, but i am sure i can squeeze it from somewhere if it is really worth it. And do you think the new 256 DDR2 9800's will outperform the regular 9800's by that much? How much do you think the 256mb ones will outperform the regular ones.. I just dont wanna get the 9800 then it be obsilete in 2 months because of the 9800pro 256mb DDR2 ones. Well, let me know what ya think!

i'd stick with your 9700 until the 256MB 9800s are out. i bet the extra memory will help for some of the upcoming games.

I don't have a 9700, this one is defective and it is going back to the company for a refund.. so i need to buy a new card.. so shouldn't i just get a 9800? The extra memory might help a little, but not much, and as far as the DDR2.. we dont really need anymore memory bandwidth as it is! So dont ya think i should just get a 9800.. i cannot wait until the 256mb cards come out.. i have to have one this week

sure, if you have to have it right now pick up the regular 9800 Pro. i just figure the 256MB of memory would help in upcoming games such as Doom 3.

Yeah, well i would not mind waiting a few weeks.. but me paying $405 for the 9800 is gunna take some string pulling.. and i am sure the 9800 256mb is gunna cost a pretty penny more.. probably around $500.. which i would never pay for a video card and just plain out cannot afford at all.

also keep in mind that the regular 9800 Pro will probably be cheaper after the 9800 Pro 256MB is released. but who knows when that card will be released.

anyway, i'd actually go for the 128MB 9800 now that you mention the price.
