Wow, when I left there were only a few running this project. It is so nice to see so many people contributing. As soon as I reach my Dimes goal (within a week or so), I think I'm gonna upset Commycast again and contribute to the cause. Now that everyone has eaten my PIE, perhaps I should try and get some back huh?

You'll know when I return...Just like Arnold..."I'll be back"

P.S. I noticed Philosophy is at 0 output...Did Commycast get him and remove his spleen?

I would love to see XSCM come back to life here but i just cannot get MJ12 working correctly, so im taking a wee break from the project.

It seems it just stops crawling after like 2 hrs of being on, and i can never get sustained crawls, it will crawl for like 2 seconds then stop for 2 and so on.

hopefully i'll be back in a lil bit to take care of some business.

I'm having the same problems that the XSCM guys are having, sort of. I get a 20-30 minute sustainted craled at around 5mbps and then it dies for 2 hours, I was wondering if it was comcrap throttling me but my connection still maxes out at 6mbps on speed tests, so the machine will be formated this weekend to see if it is a problem on my side. Suchs that XSTM is down so low due to this.

Check wich library you are working with. This is a new feature. You can check this in 'status' screen. In the corner, right below, it should say under the 'starvation: yes or no' 'library: .NET or MJ12'

By default it should be on MJ12, if not, go to 'options', 'crawler' and check 'use alternative http library'.

It gives slightly higher error rates, but produces faster with less MB's.

Have you tweaked any of the clients settings yet? If yes then you may have to run more than one client to get the max out of it especially if it's that line you posted an SS of :slobber:.

:toast:

Also what kind of success % are you guys getting with the new client? I used to be able to run 130 workers and 50 buckets and get about 60% success with 1.3.0 now with the new beta i get about 30%

I spent a little time browsing the forums over at MJ12 and apparently MJ12 and Boinc sometimes have trouble working together. I installed the 1.3.5 beta and it was responding the same way as 1.3.0 until I turned off boinc for a few minutes, then computer started to chew through URLs, pulling in nearly ~1200 urls every minute. I then changed the priority of MJ12 to be above normal on all attributes, restarted boinc, and the system is happily crunching away. I've also got a 93.5% success rate after 25 minutes into a crawl, if anything changes I'll update. Yay beta + priority tweaks!

MJ12 used to use 0% CPU usage with boinc and previous settings, now it is up to about 1-2% on a 2.8GHz E6400. I won't be hitting movieman speeds but it's still doing a good job crunching through the URLs, much better than before. Now it is time to do some school work, can't tweak crunchers for money :(

The system is dedicated to MJ12 as welll....nothing else running. I get 50% better results running native than I do on a VM. Running 2VMs gets worse results than running 1....but I have a feeling that's a system limitation (Kernel was using a core to itself somehow....with no apps running, maybe OSX was bugging out with a new MySQL install, who knows).

When I left this morning (after just upgrading to 1.35b3 and going native XP), I had something like a 65% success rate and did ~105k in its first 33 minutes of being active.

Still sorting out the issues with the node limit (seems 8mbps is about all it can average....), should be able to get a second machine up to allow more bandwidth usage sometime soonish....

Also working around the starvation mode problems....ugh. Also working around the fact that I can't get it to run on OSX without production killing VMs and XP isn't even good at sucking a nut and is a pain to use.

I also have problems with the fact that my school really really hates people using routers, killing bandwidth to anybody that does, so no wireless or desktop internet for now.

I dont understand your ratio at all Vapor lol. Url/MB?? That can be changed depending on your compression settings. That would mean for XSTM, 70urls=1mb. For me, 77urls=1mb. For mcintosh, 72urls=1mb. I dont understand what you mean at all. Can you explain?

Vapor
11-16-2006, 04:48 PM
It's not based on compression....it's based on how large each URL is. Bandwidth abilities are constant*....but if we can tweak which domains we target so that we target really small URLs, we'll get more URLs done with the same amount of bandwidth.

*except in the case of XSTM vs. TMK, where Vapor adds a third machine, like now :p:

PS., I won't be touching 12Mil today (although 'today' started 50 minutes ago) because I accidentally forgot to turn off my damn tweak on BOTH systems :(

mine are .com, .net and .org. Choosing local ones based on your country usually allow for best crawling results. Now I think I understand your url/mb ratio, though I dont see how you can just demand smaller URL's. What type of router are you using vapor? Sooner or later that is gonna be your bottleneck.

(runs and cuts Vapors lines at 3am)Yeah, I don't think it will sustain this....even if you don't cut the line.....the third system is, however, transitioning to higher URL/MB buckets, so it might stay up a little.

At late afternoon/evening every day it seems I'll be taking a drop when lots of people use the internet.

EDIT: 47min mark: 480k flat....so I am sustaining it seems :)

wouldnt it just be easier to say roughly 10000urls a min? That would lead to 14.5 mil, which I think is a better guestimate. I'm doing roughly 150k urls an hour, so today I think I may break the 4mil barrier on one node. Once I go to sleep its badwith rape time.

Joe, if we knew what you know about this app we'd be getting another 5 mil a day out of this..OR more!
You should do a tutorial pal!:toast:

62min mark: 648k, means 168k in the last 15min....it's speeding up :slobber:

IMO, breaking the stats down to a minute sized chunk doesn't work so well....even 15 minute chunks are great assessments from what I've seen over these three nodes. Much larger and you lose statistical trends that come from tweaking which domains you prefer. Anyway, 10k a minute isn't too far off, but it is slightly low on all but the startup chunk of time.

And fwiw, specifying net/org/com really hammered me....all the gains from the past 15 minutes have come from the third node, which had just finished the last of the net/com/org's before this 15 timeframe.....the best I can get is specificying everything but those three (but no checkboxes checked).

EDIT: and according to FDC, XSTM did 10Mil yesterday! :woot:

No idea why my MB's are so low compared to the number of urls. Used to be other way around.

Crawling only .com's ...

Last update shows M&M in the lead :p:(MJ12 stats)

Btw. vapor I've got a 15 mbit line (actually 20 mbit, but effectivly around 15 mbit), but as you can see, it's not using half of it... don't know what you did, but it's crazy!

Also seems my third systems is gonna be a difficult one to wrangle....woke up and it had 46 barrels to be archived and uploaded.....archiver stalled.....and I think it gets work done faster than it can archive and return it.

And your "Anonymous" and "Killing_you_softly" have incredible URL/MB ratios.....dayum

Well, 6.7Mil over 12 hours....with one system being thoroughly sidelined for probably the past 6-8....I've snoozed downloading until it archives through all 46 of those completed barrels and uploads them. :(
