well, finally got a mobo, nf7-s v2.0, slapped the system together in my jinu-built "VapoLi", and as the title says, cpu-z reports 64kb L2, should be 512kb...

i've updated to latest cpu-z, and tried 3 modded bios, and the latest stock bios, and still shows 64kb..

is it possible the cold is thrashing the cache, or maybe it got thrashed when i killed my dfi lanparty?

any thoughts?

thanx

yes! high voltage and cold can thrash the cache..

If you look at the score. It is very low for a Athlon XP @ 2900Mhz+, it looks like a score with only the 64kb used....

Have you tryed it with normal cooling? Maybe with normal temps and voltage that is still will work well...

well, just checked with my friend, who has same setup(xp-m 2500+ 0343mpmw, jinu-built 'vapoli', etc....), only difference is he still has a working dfi lanparty nf2 ultra-b, and his too shows 64kb L2, so I guess it is the cold....

any ideas on how to get around this??

Hmmm. I never knew the Bartons had this issue.

I watched Modfathers use Ln2 to OC a T-bred to just under 2Ghz, and they had no cache issues. This is really strange that it would knock out "sections" of the cache rather than just stop the CPU cold in It's tracks :p: . I wish i could help, as I have this same CPU. But it seems that AMD has long suffered the cold bug woes. Probably one of the reasons alot of the phase crowd these days are making the move to intel.

BTW, does anyone know whether Phenom will sufer from the -20C coldbug that the X2's had?

Hmm, maybe you should try setting the 512KB l2 cache in the registry manually:

- HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
- SecondLevelDataCache -> right-click
- Change from Hex (hexadecimal) to Decimal, change the number in the data field to reflect your processor's L2 cache size in KB (512) or use this scheme:

256KB: in 100 in hex
512KB: in 200 in hex
1024KB: in 400 in hex
2048KB: in 800 in hex
