Last upgrade

This will be a question you all heard severel times i guess.
S939 is slowly getting end of life. And as low the prices are now, i want to do one last upgrade of my processor.
Should i buy a regular AMD64 like the 4000+ San Diego,
An X2 dual core or an opteron. And the last single or dual core.

Who has an idea?

I got the same one from Newegg today and I'm at 3GHz. :banana: 1.4 volts on water. I haven't even maxxed it out yet. :fact:

2. CPU
3. VGA

...if you wish to have a seamless transition to an "updated" system.

That's why I have not changed my Opteron 148 single core so far...

OPTY 165 fer sure. It was a obvious choice for me.

ok. If i do an oc i will have a progress with that 165 opteron.
But at standard speeds i will loose speed. 2,2 GHz to 1,8 GHZ for my 3700+ San Diego now. And don't forget not all app's support dual core.
In the future more app's will support dual core.
So i expect that dual core is the best choice.
But i don't trust that loss in MHz :confused:

getting an opty 165 = futureproofing yourself. and 1.8 is just a stock number. the thing overclocks like mad. i can beat your 2.2 GHz w/ my opty :)

I have my opty at 2.84GHz with stock volts on air :) Sure beats your stock 3700+ I'll bet ;)

If you get an opty try to stay away from the CCBWE steppings. The CCBBE steppings are much better, newegg has been handing those out like candy lately from the sound of it :)

I hear ya. I got my new X2 4800+ stable at 2.82ghz (still testing higher) with 1.384v actual (1.36v read in bios) and heat too is my enemy. I had no problems getting my chip to what it is now but I am worried about going higher cause when the hot summer months come this chip is going to get quite toaster. I already get about 52c in decent ambient temps. If I shut the door to the room and get the ambient temps up there I hit 55-58c easily however still 100% stable.

What temps are you getting at 2.8ghz 1.4v?
