Who has a high vga core/mem air-cooled overclock and what are you using? What is the best performing store bought vga cooler? Who has a cool vga cooling mod that is worth the work. Please post and include pictures and links.

Thanks!

Erock, WELCOME TO XTREME!!!

it might help to specify which brand/model of card you are looking for.

anyway, the best overclock on my Matrox G400 was 165/220 with the stock HSF. stock speed is 150/200. :p

Thanks for the welcome! No card in general, just looking for air cooling solutions that are proven to work on an extreme oc'd vga card.

i've seen some pretty amazing things done with P3 HSFs.

i wish i could find the post, but a guy took an old Panaflo Orb pulled from some HP server and strapped it to his GF4. it was a cool looking mod and i guess it cooled very well.

I've been really lucky with my GF3 Ti200. Out of the box it went to 250/530. Stock clocks for a Ti200 are 175/480. I'm think about putting on an old MC370 heatsink with some Artic Silver Epoxy.

felix88, the guy you're thinking about is FLOWERMAN. He actually did it twice that I know of. Once to his GF4 and another time to a friends card. He used the flat sided Panaflo Orb both times I believe and attached it with Artic Silver Epoxy.

Here's a link to the Panaflo Orb with the flat side:

Thx LR! That Orb looks promising, wonder what kind of core/mem he got out of it? Great Posts! Keep em coming! :)

LR, just looked up your MC370, WOW! Let us know if you get that to stick. Come to think of it I have PCI slots to spare myself. Have to hit the closet to see what I can find. :D

my albatron ti4200 128MB does 315/720 out of the box. It has great heatsink and ramsinks and fan.

yeah FLOWERMAN, i guess he got banned from [H] i can't find any of his posts.

it looked cool with the orb. i didn't think you could still get those anywhere, thanks for the link.

Has anyone tried this one yet?

zalman makes a similar product, except without a fan.

i still think a CPU HSF would probably do a better job.

If FLOWERMAN can get the Panaflo Orb to stick I shouldn't have a problem with the MC370. I hope... :D

I'll have to use a blower though which might not work as well as I want. Maybe a really thin low cfm fan would work..

arctic alumina epoxy is pretty strong stuff. i've seen it take off memory chips and even GPUs. i wouldn't worry about it falling off of your card.

Found a Vantec CCK-6035d with a Delta on it in da closet. That might cool my card down a bit. :D Might have to change the Delta out with a quieter fan but not until I see what it can do. Need some ram sinks first. Might have to order those. Thanks for the inspiration.

i might try my Alpha PEP66 as a GPU cooler sometime. ;)

I was looking at my Pal6035 Rev. 2 and it might be a kick ass little cooler. I just need to figure out a way to mount a fan or blower without losing three damn PCI slots.

Then again I might to go the Panaflo Orb route. I have a full Orb that I haven't used since my Geforce 256. I'm think a hack saw and some diligent lapping should bring some life back into it.. :D

I own one of those flat-sided "panaflo orbs" from allelectronics. HP surplus, they're a nice HSF but HEAVY. I'd definitely recommend careful clamping while the epoxy cures to keep it from shifting and to help ensure a good bond.

That HSF is also big enough that it will be a tight fit or no fit on some cards. It has a rectangular, milled base that might benefit from light lapping. It also appears to have been milled from a solid piece of aluminum. Not pretty, but handsome in the same way that a tank is handsome ;)

What kind of results did you get from that flat side orb? Looks Sweet!

You know, I haven't used it since the Celeron 300/450 days. I've thought about putting it on my kd7-e NB or my ti4200, just been too lazy, I guess!

It was last used on a Cel366@600 (wired onto the socket), I don't remember the temps but it was as good as the alpha at the time, and quiet. It's hard to fit - look at the dimensions - because it is so very BIG.

the PEP66 was designed for use on slotkets so the fan mounts on the side to keep it from blocking too many DIMM slots. it might be able to fit without blocking too many PCI slots.

Cooljag JAC313C is a good VGA cooler. If only I wasn't volt limited, I could break 328.5/742 on my Ti-4600 for once :upset:

the reason he got banned was "flaming." he did have quite a temper if you pissed him off.

I've never seen a post where he was flaming but i haven't seen them all. Anyway he was helpful and he knew quite a lot

heh, back when flowerman had 8000 posts i'm pretty sure lan had 12000. lan still posts over at [H] i think.

he was helpful, but he pushed the limits a bit if someone ticked him off.

i just got a Radeon 8500LE in the mail, it should be doing 300/300 here soon. i've tried 280/280, and it ran perfect.

http://www.aocb77.dsl.pipex.com/cards.jpg

Card on the left is a GF4 MX 440 with Glabalwin CAK2 copper cpu hsf and 38cfm delta. It does 405 for cpu and 688 for memory. Space limitations on the PCB meant I could not go bigger.

On the right is the heatsink that comes with an Intel P4 3.0 C 800FSB processor. It's bloody big, no wonder Intel cpu's cost so much. Don;t know what the fan is rated at, probably not much , but if it's good enough for 3Ghz it should be ok for a Gainward card which normally uses the standard type hsf that looks like a milk bottle top. With standard hsf the gainward did 335/675 which is pretty good stock, far better than my old MSI GF4 4400 which did 310/648 or so.

That big fan at the back is a Papst 6210NM 170mm fan with 206cfm ..over the whole motherboard .. loud though.

I know this is not fair...

Geforce FX 5800 Ultra

585 GPU and 1160 Memory

zakelwe
05-19-2003, 10:03 PM
But Fugger, that's only 85Mhz :) Mine was 405-250 = 155Mhz !!!

Mind you that's not fair either because the GF4 MX4400 is not a very complex chip and so overclocks a lot better than a more advanced gpu.

One of the VnOCzone guys with volt mods and Peltier ( I think ) up to 516Mhz which is the first time i have seen a 100% overclock on a video card gpu.

Andy

actually fugger thats a really bad oc :) its just 15%, and that flowfx cooler is more powerfull than zakelwes P4 3ghz cooler! ;) :p

zakelwe do you have the gainward default g4mx or the golden sample? i have the golden sample and it oced to 400/700 default. has 3.3ns memory and the same super cheap heatsink you were talking of (for all who dont know it, its a round piece of alu, they just cut into the sites of the alu and bent them slightly upwards and glued a fan on it :D )

saaya

wow so i have the highest oc on air of a video card? yeah! hahahah so that g4mx was good for soemthing after all :p
