If I remember I turn off updates on folding rigs, but sometimes I forget, the rig in the kitchen restarted, Ive no idea how long it been idle, last time I looked was 2wks ago.:nono:

damn updates...Why not just put it in the startup folder so after MS reboots your comp it auto runs?:toast:

Just set auto updates to download, but you manually install.

Happend to me several times aswell. TWB just posted the perfect solution.
Or add Boinc to the autostart.

I do the same thing that TWB does... hasn't failed me yet.

I do put a shortcut to launch BoincView in the startup folder though, just in case any of my little ones decide to press the pretty little reset button....

Second TWB manual install recommendation. No express either. Need to check what the updates are for. Some are not at all necessary and some have side effects.

As for BOINC, I have it installed as a service. So it starts automatically always and runs whether I or any of the "little ones" is logged in.

@lv_dicedealer: If I read you corectly, Boincview is just a manager, not the BOINC client. You don't need it to run at all in order to crunch the WUs. In fact, it slows your machine down by constantly checking BOINC status. Don't need it. Fire it up only to check then shut it down (not even taskbar icon).

I think you need the taskbar icon if you're not running as a service, but the manager is unnecessary.
