A new generation of gaming systems is emerging with the lion share of the power being drawn by the graphics system,” commented Dr. Michael Schuette, VP of Technology Development at OCZ Technology. “Quad SLI and high-end CrossFire™ solutions are pushing up to 500W of power consumption which exceeds the capabilities of any conventional high-end power supply. Moreover, by the end of the year we will see PC games specifically developed for quad core CPUs. OCZ's answer is the new GameXStream top model with 850W output to make sure that even the most hungry systems get the power they need under the most demanding conditions.

Pricing and availability is unknown at the moment, though judging by current pricing of the GameXStream 700 watt’s $160 price tag expect to pay around $200 or more for the GameXStream 850 watt.

I wouldn't put this past the silverstone or zippy or pcp&c 850watters...but it should be good value for money, knowing ocz :)

aka...next person to whine about ripple gets a swift kick you know where.

Looks good to me. I was thinking of getting the 700w variant in January when the R600 is released cause I doubt my 600w powerstream is going to be able to keep up. I guess I will look forward to the 850w variant now.

I just hope it isn't too noisy. Something of that size surely must get hot.

jG did a review of the GXS 700w and at high loads ripple was found.

The ultimate test for any 850Watters will be 5Ghz+ Core duo @ 1.8+Vcore with CF/SLI oc'd run benches:).....It won't hurt to add 2X HDs and a pci raid controller.

it would be better than the 700w gxs thats for sure. but the 600w zippy, and 620w corsair are all around that same price and have much better build quality than the gxs.

of course the evo is out now, and looks to be fairly solid, only a review will tell. and they arent that badly priced either.

I know I probably shouldn't trust that outervision psu calculator that you can find on your net but using that showed an R600 putting my load close to 640w which would shut my system down with the current psu. If you check my system in sig and exchange the X1900 with an R600 do you really think my system would keep up?

The problem is the new cards need 2 x pcie power connectors and I have the original 600w PS that only has one, so I would need a convertor/splitter I think.
