I have had this cooler for a few months now, I was wondering if it is worth going and getting an SLK-800 and a nice fan. Or do you guys think the vantec can hold me until I get VapoChill or Water?

what exactly is good about the smartfanII i hear so much about it but I never here what is good about it. I want something simi-quiet. I had the tornado for like 10minutes then returned it cause it was so damn loud. (powertoys tornado)

I just need something to hold me until summer when I get VapoChill or Water.

Naw. No offense, but why get a 80mm fan when the 900 was designed for 92mm fans???? Doesn't seem to make sense to me. Get a powerful 92 and hook it up to a rheobus, jack the volume down and you are set. Hell, you can even use a 92 on either the SLK-800 or SK-7, just gotta turn that sucka sideways. Best air option today is SLK-900 with the 92mm Tornado (120CFM  ). I would get that and hook it up to a rheobus (if you can find one that has enough juice) and you will have serious cooling.

Ohh, I got the Smart Fan, good fan as it moves lots of air and you can adjust it. Seems to be the best option for anyone who wants to control noise with no rheobus. :)

It would be a great combo, but why go with an 80??????? The heatsink is designed for 92mm fans, which push more air and are quieter. I don't understand why you would want to spend >$40 on a heatsink alone, and not take advantage of it.......

exactly, if you are set on buying a Tt SmartFan2, buy the SLK800.

otherwise, pick up a GOOD 92mm fan, a rheostat, and a SLK900.

you could always go with a Vantec Tornado and a rheostat to keep the noise down.

i've got some panaflos that are ok too, just not as powerful as the Tornado.

What is a Quite 92mm fan that has a nice airflow. Kinda like how the vantec fan on my aeroflow is quite and has excellent airflow..

If you are going for minimal noise, the SLK-900 would be a waste. I thought you were looking for something that would be an upgrade??? If you want quiet, you have a nice CPU cooler now. Basically, if you are looking to Overclock and want something that doesn't make noise, air coolers are not the best way to go. You said you need something to hold you over until water or phase change, why not just keep what you have? Seems like the best idea if you want quiet. However, if you insist on upgrading to a better heatsink you can get the SLK-900 and like an LED fan or something from www.svc.com However, you aren't going to using that heatsink to it's potential, considering you have to use a very high CFM fan (aka loud) to get the max performance. It will almost certainly give you better temps, but it wouldn't be worth spending ~$50 IMO.

Royal Oaks,

Thanks, I think I will just build my own cooling system...chilled water most likely. I think my vantec aeroflow will hold me over for another month.

Thanks again

No problem dude. I just don't like to see people wasting money. ;):D Good luck with the water setup. :)
