While most forgot about it's existence, some fans go as far as installing custom bioses and making entire homebrew hardware for it.

I am naturally interested in hitting 300MHz (it's 200Mhz stock), the record is 286Mhz.

While there is a thread about it at DCEMU
http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=7163

I thought it would be fun to post my projects and results here.

If you are interested in getting involved and would go as far as daring ot buy a dreamcast, I have some extra, so PM me.

Results coming soon (when i get my crystals :p: )

lol kohan lol

as much as i love my dreamcast i just need to find a place that still sells gdroms cheap as i have a perfectly good working unit that needs a replacement gdrom.
it's my backup in case my regular dies.

but thats interesting, but i'm afraid i don't see 100mhz really making any difference.
honestly though do you ? or has it truly been proven to work for better emu performance.

and for some odd reason this is just one of those consoles i dont feel like i need to mod. i love it in it natural form i guess.

Yes, it greatly improves framerates (Shenmue in rain, metropolis street racer slowdowns) at just 240MHz (stock is 200MHz)

nn_step - do you know how to voltmod a dreamcast?!

I honestly wish Sega would raise from its ashes
with a new, kick ass sytem. All hopes of that are
gone:

Their trademark character has become the whore
that gets passed around by each console and has
caught so many STD's, that he is no longer the lead
in his own games and has fallen victim to Violence.

I think the most logical step is to have the next
playboy game, star Sonic. The best part is that in
the first 2 minutes of the game Knuckles shoves
his fist into Sonic's face and becomes the surprise
star of the game. And I mean After shooting up
chaos monsters all day you want to do is go home
and have sex, right? or was it go and smoke a blunt?
Man these hip games are so hard to keep track of...

Somewhat of a break-through was made recently

Many game saves and or entire VMUs (dreamcast memory cards) were getting corrupted due to asynchronism from the overclock.

This was solved by replacing the crystal in the VMU to match the system's clock

If you wanna OC, you'd want Rev 0, or Rev 1. The Rev 2s, and up doesn't clock so good. Also, excess of 230MHz that chip heats up. Which is no good for the dreamcast's crammed enviro. Best to take that bad boy out, and add some after-market cooling methods on it.

Have fun.

I'm having fun modding consoles too lately! (But it's more of "tricking" out with LED, CCFL underbodies, and the stuff you see on ricer cars)

DC is cool console, but NES is still number one!
