Running at 3.8 ghz and like 1.6vcore or so (which is undervolted by my mobo to a little over 1.55) my x6800 is at 37C idle and 70C full load according to intel TAT. I have a PA120.3, apogee on the cpu, maze4 on each GPU (2 total), laing ddc2 with petras top, and 5.25" bay res.

This seems a little warm to me. Although my video cards are better, 35C idle and 44C full load.

That's a friggin huge delta Idle - Load! I have an overclocked E6300, a pa120.2 and one MCW60. My temp difference between idle and load is like 15 degrees.

70C is a bit too high.. anything over 63-65 and i would be so happy. Try lowering the Vcore 1.55 in bios

or better remount said apogee, could be a bad mount...

where you at? is your ambient around 30C or higher?

No my ambient is actually 18-22C

Could be bad mounting...but I was being careful. Also if I have to remount it, how do I do that? Do I have to drain my whole system and then disconnect the tubing? That would be a pain!

On the light side, this is a personal record for me!

Just take off the block, remove and reapply TIM and mount block again.

That delta is way high...even the idle seems a bit high considering his ambient temps no?

it could really be just bad mounting or not enough TIM.
but for experimenting try your setup with stock speeds for the cpu, leave gpu overclocked,
if cpu temp still high remount then...
if still not right, use a better thermometer?

Couple of things, first definately remount. How much pressure do you have the WB torqued down with? I dont even use springs, I must have 100ft lbs of torque on my CPU. Second, your IHS may be concave and may need to be lapped.

lap the cpu!

You definitely have something wrong. That Delta difference is too high:) .

That is most likely it IMHO. Seems to be a common issue with these C2D chips.

Can anyone with a C2D and water cooling just open up intel TAT, put both cores to 100% load, wait like 10 seconds, and tell me their temps and also what vcore? I just want to have a rough estimate of how bad my temps are.

My temps peak at 64 in TAT and that's rare, generally they stay at 58-60 peak with orthos. This is with 1.475v, 3.55GHz E6600 (still trying to get damn DS3 multi-hour orthos stable above that without jacking voltage too high.

If you've remounted and it didn't help, I would be willing to bet two saltine crackers that your temps will go down by 5-7 degrees or more if you lap your IHS flat. Don't worry about the "BLING BLING" mirror finish, just lap it until you've hit copper color in most of the middle of the IHS. My temps went down by 5-7 degrees after I lapped mine - I had a pretty concave IHS, I had to grind it way down before I saw copper in the middle.

is it too much to ask for a flat IHS from intel?
this seems like the nth thread regarding concave ihs...
