I've got a pentium 3 with a Aero 7 Lite, and it's pretty quiet but since it's about a yard from my bed I'd like it quieter.

Does anyone know of a passive socket 370 heatsink? Or I was thinking of modding my Aero 7 to slow down the fan, but I'm not sure how much that would help.

the aero 7 uses a 80mm fan IIRC, so you could just pick up a nice panaflow ultra quiet 80mm fan to replace it with

Ya, it uses an 80mm fan; it's rated at 24dba at min speed, so that 21dba fan wouldn't be a big improvement.

Actually it would be a pretty big improvement since persieved noise is roughly doubled for every 3dba increase.

But even better, go for the Nexus realsilent fan (http://www.nexustek.nl/80mmcasefan.htm) which is rated at 17.6DB - i have a couple of them myself and they are basically inaudible if you run them at 7v - same goes for nexus' 92mm and 120mm fans, so if you need more get one of those instead and do a custom mount of the fan.

I ordered one of these (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16811999071) which is rated at 13dba. Hopefully that will be quiet enough:)

If i was you i'd cancel that order asap and get the nexus instead... coolermasters rated dbas are often far from the truth, while nexus' ratings are the real deal.

I have seen coolermaster fans with over 6db higher real-world values than their rated value in more than one test, where as the nexus fans almost always score their rated value or at least extremely close.

silentpcreview.com (http://www.silentpcreview.com/) rates the nexus 80mm at 18db where as nexus claims 17.6db

Why not, a 80-120mm adaptor, and a 120mm fan? pushes more air, while spinning slower. Just get a Yate Loon D12SL12 and undervolt it to 7v and you have a really silent fan.

don't think I can cancel:/ but I'll try

nope:/ If it's too loud I'll just put it in my other PC, one of it's case fans died recently, and order a Nexus.

Not a bad idea at all - a Yate Loon D12SL12 @ 7v is basically the same as a Nexus 120mm @ 12v - maybe even take it down to 5v (same as nexus @7v) and you have a very nice and basically inaudible fan with a decent enough non-oc airflow.

Thanks, I'll look into that fan also

I've got a dual-p3 1Ghz setup with 2 old school Tt Volcano 7 heatsinks (no fans) with one 120mm fan (running at 7v) blowing on both - they have been running that way for 2 years now, no problems. The fan is held up with the pci-screw Zalman bracket.

What's wrong with Coolermaster's dbA ratings? I have a few of the CM LED Silent fans (80mm & 120mm) and they're all so silent and inaudible; and yet they push more air then the nexus's. Don't get me wrong i also have nexus fans and i love them too! Just that i find Coolermaster's LED Silent Case fans almost just as silent as Nexus's yet they move much more air. :p:

Fan just arrived, and it's practically silent. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with their dBA rating to me.
