I have 2 sticks of 512.
Would I be able to add
one stick of 1024?

I have: two of these

I am thinking of getting:

I could realistically get another 2 512 sticks, but the 1gig is much cheaper...

Would I be able to add
one stick of 1024? Yes, but you will lose DualChannel mode -> performance loss
if you got 2x512 the best option will be to sell them and to get 2x1Gb

You can do that, but for best performance, Matched pair are highly suggested

So it would be a bad performance idea to have 4 sticks of 512??

Not really, it would just limit your upgrade potental in the future.

Oh , I'm not worried about that. My next real
upgrade would be a new mobo for a conroe or
a kentsfield.

Question.. If you're not worried about future upgradability... Why even bother upgrade this computer? If you can live with it, live with it. Then invest the money in the new one and you can have it that much sooner.

Like putting more and more money into that rustbucket car... just go a buy a working one. lol

Hahaha... not even a close analagy. I say this
because 2GB will go a long way. My next mobo
will be able to use that same RAM.

Even then, I have a girlfriend, whom inherits my
old parts, to be used by her.

With one matched pair and a single stick you don't run dual-channel anymore. Some boards like the DFI SLI-DR/Ultra-D don't do that at all (only two slots can run single-channel at all).

You also run 2T and a lower frequency.

The real-world performance impact with probably still be in the 3-5% area, or less depending on applications.

Some 965/975 boards don't like exostic RAM mixes at all.
