Ok, So I am building up my war chest. The problem is I don't have the money to get Ram the right way atm. I need psu's first to get them going. So the question here is..... I have 2x1g G.Skill and 2x512 Kingston value. What I was thinking is this. Put 1x1gig in each of the first 2 and both 2x512 in the 3rd one so each has a gig and can do cancer. No really the question is in here some were. It is How big a hit will I take for taking out the dual channel from both the x2 4600+ and the Conroe E6300 both? I will use one of the first 2 for gaming so that will have something to do with it. One more thing. The x2 4600+ is OPB's no cold buged one and the Conroe is Charlies but the board will only do 300fsb so 2.1 is top on the E6300 for now. So probably put the Mach1 (if I ever get it done) on the 46k+ and water cooling on the E6300 and 170 opty.
The Linux boxes are just me thinking out loud. Don't mind them unless you want to, And if you do what is the fastest Skt A 133 cpu's? I can't remember that far back.
Edit: or just sell it all and get a Kent :woot:
Thanks all for your input,
Scott

I think that you have the right idea; get those three running first, which as you know will produce the most WU. I would run your games on the first, because with you vid card the processor is not going to limit game performance and that leaves the e6300 to run continously and produce more WU than the x2.

looking good to me!!!! what you need to do is get a p5b deluxe and oc that e6300 to the moon!!!!! then get some value ram and a celly to use that ecs mobo.

That is the future plan. Just want to get running what I have and then move up the outdated boxes.

Try out the S3 for the E6300. Cheap and you'll get more than 300FSB. Keep the ECS until you happen across a Pent D.;) Or sell it and use the cash to up your RAM supply. ;)

That is the plan down the road. For now though I am wanting to know what kind of performance hit I will take making the x2 and conroe single chanel even though it will be a gig each.

Not sure myself; I recently did just that on a few rigs, but don't yet have enough info to comment on the difference.

Did you happen to do it on a gamer rig? I do play on the x2 4600+

Nope; kept 2g in that one. Can u run a before/after 3dmark or other graphics benchmark like fear.

[XC] mysticmerlin

probably could. Thing is that the x2 is on the Ultra-D ATM and the A8n-SLi will be on it when it goes down to 1g stick.

I still think your findings will be relevent. The question is what diff you will see between running 1 channel or 2.

What would be a good honest (FREE) bench to go with?

Some games have them already built in like fear which is a good one. Here are some others: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/browse.php?c=1

The 3dmark ones get progressively larger for later versions, but they are free, just have less features than the versions you pay for. The farcry and half-life ones look nice and small. I have not used them, but have seen them referenced.

2lbs of hamburger will fix that easy!! :toast:

back on subject here I don't think that single channel ram will affect your WU crunching but it will kill you on fear!

I run an E6600 @370FSB 3300Mhz with only 2 x 512MB Kingston CL4 / GA-965P-DS3 , I lose a little on the cancer jobs which affect anything else I`m doing at the time but hdc jobs are infrequent and it still ploughs through the faah jobs.

I do the same 2 x 512MB on the D930 @3600Mhz I`m still getting good points for them both.

The cancer jobs will use virtual memory so you can still do them !

Edit : Windows Vista will use flash memory as extra memory for your machine.

K that is just not going to happen. I got a gig of DDR2 for Conie coming now. :toast: Also got a 4 port KVM and a couple 24pin 480wt/500wt PSU's. Little DDR ram here and there and one more psu and :woot: I am bidding on the top 10-15 spot low 20's ain't cutting it.
