At stock speeds i am seening 42 C temps when just browsing the internet. Is this normal? My 3000 had a 29 C temp when doing the same thing.

Nope that ain't normal..... in a good ventilated case with proper air cooling you should see some 31-32 degrees tops... I get those temps with an OC'ed 4400x2
Did you mount the cooler properly...?

Depends if he's seeing core temps or mobo sensor temps.
If its core temps then its fine.
Use programme called "core temp" to see.

on that coretemp thing it tells me 39-40C... but on my Abit EQ thing it is currently saying 44C

A core temp isn't the same as a sensor temp...
The core temp is measured inside the CPU where a sensor temp is measured on the mobo itself..
Most programs except Everest show only the sensor temperature so that temp is widely used on sites...
