keeps the VGA under 55c loaded with full load at 1.575v.

Unfortunatly this core sucks, i rma'd my old card that did 750 on stock cooler and newegg clearly gave me a refurb, wont go over 725. The BT brought my temps down about 40c though and gave me alot more headroom on ram.

Ill update with how i made it later.

Hehe nice going :) How did you bend the heatpipes? Warmed them up a bit, then just bend them? Provide pics from the mounting system, always nice ;)

Look @ our fellow xs member Nightcrawler, he put a Zalman 9500 on his GPU > http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=86526

Those are my plans, rather then run benchmarks in the comfort of my own home, i am going to get in the back of a monster truck for some real xtreme benching.

Actually it would be fine, as the sink rests on the case.

Seems to be an x1900xt, am I correct?

If that's the case, I may try that on mine :)

You should try to bend it so it can actually fit in your case. Then just cut a hole in the side of the case 4 intake. That would be pretty cool.

Cooler rests on the case. :) no bending whatsoever, it actually "lifts" the card a bit. :)

Damn cool, but how about the weight. Doesn't your card bend?

I whas thinking about modding this EKL Nocona on my x1900.

Nocona hasn't heatpipes, but should be easyer to mount.
Just make some holes in the card and that should be it

Where can i get those? there are nice.

Anyways, first one would be hard work because the compnents on the pcb are higher then the core. So you would have it resting on them most likely, plus you need airflow to the ram. The second one looks like it would be very nice.

As for wieght, i think ive answered the question like 18 times in this thread, read if you want.

Nice work. I'm impressed

So 'heat' is the trick for separating the heatpipes from the base and retaining plate, etc.... How long and what kind of intensity required firing those pipes before they separate? And how much, if any, force required to help them along?

On a NB, you could get the same temps with a heatsink 1/4 the size of a BT. Not enough heat to utilize its capacity.

Yes torch is the way to go, id say about a minute or so with the flame dead on, you have to cool the fins becasue the sink is so efficient it will compete with your torch, at lesast it did with mine... so i wrapped wet towel around them. as for force, i was holding it upside down, and every few seconds i just knocked it into my workbench and when i was time it came out very easy uing this method.

In what picture, in some i have a panaflo highoutput, others just a cheap aspire that doesnt move alot of air and is loud.

IMO my swiftech MCX-159 isnt enough cooling for nb, i think if i used half a big typhoon, by removing one side of fins and puting the remaining pipes in the middle of the base, it could be a cool little project. Not sensible, but would still be nice to see. :)

i have an idea to remove the top fan and pry the two heatsinks outwards and then put a 80mm fan in between them. the reason i am considering doing this is because i have a 120mm intake fan right in front of the case lined up perfectly and a 120mm exhaust in the back so the cold air from the front would go through the big t and then out the back of the case.. i just need to know if it would be ok to just pry the two heatsinks apart. thanks in advance and that is a really great job you did there:up:.

sorry for bumping an old thread

but how the hell did i miss this thread till today

thinking about using a un-used bigtpyhoon here on my 8800GT, specially that i don't have a case and using a bench table

anyway, can you please tell me the best way to attach the pipes back to the base after inversing their direction ? does it work with normal soldering or something special ?

STEvil

just heat the crap out of the base after replacing heatpipes where you want them and putting the heatpipe holder/backet holder back on.

When you hit the right temperature you will also be able "wick" more solder into the joint that has been created for a better joint.. more solder the better.
