What makes a successful oc, do you run the oc,s i see here daily or do you get as high as you can run a test and that makes a good oc.
I run my 1600xp at 1611 24/7 but i have had it higher just not stable?

a good OC in my book is one that you can obtain and keep stable in everyday use....

beefing up for a simple screenshot is not truly an OC - it is but it isn't practical or meant for any real useage.

I agree totally with JB.

I don't consider it a successful overclock when failing certain programs such as; Sandra, SETI, 3D Mark, and Games.

I agree in the most part, but what about when you oc a vid card run one test and it,s a successful oc. Shouldn,t a cpu be the same?

nope you oc the vid and maintain stability - then your good if you get jacked up for a test then drop it back down due to BSOD or lock ups then that is not a successfull oc by any means.....

sure a yugo can go 100mph downhill flooring it - but only in that situation...uphill or even flat land it won't do that, you need to be able to maintain and reproduce that level at anytime to claim that high of a speed - whether it is cars, cpus, or video..... etc etc

If your ocing a vid card you juice it up run 3dmark2000se get 13000, are you going to run that vid card like that during a game of quake?

my system runs overclocked for everyday use, but not to the absolute limit. Its not like I can feel the difference benween 3000 and 3200 MHz anyway. Only for benchmarks it gets maxed out. About the vidcard : it runs slightly underclocked 99% of the time , I hardly play any games, and definately not heavy games... so i dont see any point in overclocking my card for that.... all for 3Dmark baby ;)

I'll put my 100 percent stable Overclock in my Sig. This is my everyday useing "Successful OC" speed which I can do anything at, flash the bios, load windows or what ever.
The rest of my Higher Overclocks are just for Benching, they are still successful when they pull off a bench :D, just not 100% over all system stable.

So there are 2 diff types of ocing. Iasked because I see people with 1600xp that say they are running at 1800. Thats what I want! But everyday.:D

Agree with JB.
I try to oc my system (cpu, memory, videocard) as high as possible and maintain 100% stability at that speed. Not only for benchmarking but also for playing games.

I'm sure that people are running at 1800 Mhz everyday and its stable. Just get some great cooling and yours can do the same.

look for a 1600+ AROIA "4"
mine will run 1800 stable all day everyday but a AROIA 4 could prolly do it at default voltage ;)

I think it,s the board. The epox seems to do it easy. Thats why i bought one for my new sys. But this shuttle I have tried everything anyone has suggested still can,t get past 153fsb stable.

Need to update my sig due to problems I've had recently of which there are threads on this forum, but I had a 1600 which ran stable at 1.8Ghz with an AlphaPal8045 heatsink and a YSTech fan. With the same cooler I got an 1800+ up to 1.9Ghz at it's peak. Stabel with my XP2000+ is 1800Mhz (200x9) and that's for EVERYTHING. Running Cubase is a :banana::banana::banana::banana: of a load to put on a processor with the stuff I do so if I took cubase out of the equation I know 1900mhz (200x9.5) or higher would be easy to achieve and keep running at for whatever I need to do... I promise I'll update my sig again soon!! With vidcard o/cs, I only overclock it if I'm benching or playing a game. For standard net browsing etc I leave it set as standard. As soon as a game is going on up it goes to whatever my most stable one is (at the mo 299/299 on a rad8500)

if it completes benchmarks, its usually gonna be stable, but if you get artifacts, then it reduces the graphical goodness of games.
