As mentioned in another thread. Its simple, post a pic or two or three of your "farm". Even if its a laptop (levi), we're all interested in seeing what everyone's running.

I'll start:

Home
http://www.needmoreboost.com/xs/uhoh.jpg

On the right, 3x P2/P3 Xeon Servers. In the back, C2D e6600.

Work
http://www.needmoreboost.com/wes/myoffice.jpg

Well my laptop is in there, along with my work machine and the other one i'm running at work.

i've only got a few stalks of wheat on my farm :)
right now i've only got an (old, old, old) picture of my main box. If i ever bother finding batteries for my camera, I'll snap a fresh one as well as one of my router.
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/5343/boxenfq7.th.jpg (http://img261.imageshack.us/my.php?image=boxenfq7.jpg)
(the front is no longer ugly; it looks normal. 3 optical drives, drive bay covers, and that bottom portion has its grill back on. also, the hardware inside has changed, but thats another story)
present guts: 3800x2 at 2.7ghz running 1 instance of F@H, x1900GT running an instance of F@H (needs some CPU time too, hence only 1 cpu instance). Averages around 500 PPD in F@H
it'd be running MJ12 if the client wasn't so buggy these days :stick:. i miss that 2-3M per day :)

Mike,
Just open the attachment and copy the URL then put [ img] infront of the URL and [ /img] behind it. Just take out the space i put in before "img" and "/".

Like so:

2 ways: you can upload them to the XS server as long as they are under 200K each or get an imageshack account(free) and upload to there, check thumbnails, and then link here and your thumbnail will show.

oops! You said mod! I'm one of the peons.:D

There is one "old" one, its under the desk[the beige one].It's due for retirement/replacement, shortly. I have a 146 Opteron for it. Waiting for a new case with 24 pin psu. I'll keep it around as a spare to work when I'm upgrading another box.

And yes, it was planned, I have been working on it for about 18 months.
I am out of room and will mostly upgrade to dual core or 939 from now on. I would really like to have 150Ghz working:D

No wife, she left 25 years ago:D:D. One outside dog and an inside cat[avatar] that get "overclocked" occasionally. He's 10 years old:)

I mean for work, installing new PCs for a client and we have to stage them and image from a server prior to placement.

We have 4 cases per build site hooked to a switch with one monitor so we can bounce from system to system as it builds, the first thing that came to mind when I walked in the room was "DAMN FARM THIS!" but be it this is work for a client, I cant install WCG...........but just imagin running all those for just one day! I can't even begin to fathom the points.

You need to burn in the equipment, as part of the installation service. Right? I say 72 hours minimum 24/7 before they get the all-ok as part of the acceptance procedure. Better than prime or whatever, at least they are doing something useful with the electricity.

It will also give you the chance to bring it out in your converstion with the site admin. Just register the machines under XS_companyname, and show him the WCG device outcome as proof of "no errors", etc... or even better register the machines under XS_admin_initials. Who knows, he may get hooked.:)

I have quite a few computers here, and I thought I'd show a few of them.

I'm a single guy so I can basically put them anywhere. I have four in my dining room; two in cases on one table and two set up, caseless, on another table 90 degrees to my right.

In cases...
~ an X2/3800+ in an Ultra-D, cooled by a Mach II. Running a little north of 3 GHz.

~ an Opty 175 in another Ultra-D, cooled by an Arctic Pro 64, housed in a Global Win YCC-61F1. That case is one of my favorite all-time cases; aluminum, extremely roomy, extra wide and deep, uses 120mm fans. Running around 2.5 Ghz.

On the glass table, caseless...
~ an X2/3800+ in an Ultra-D, cooled by a TT Big Typhoon. I'm pretty sure I damaged this chip when I first got it; it runs at 2320 MHz.

~ an E6600 in a P5B Dlx, cooled by a Thermalright Ultra 120. Running with 2 GBs of Patriot PC5300. Right now, it's running at 3510 MHz.

Those are the rigs I have running in the "front" of the house. I also have an E6700 in another P5B Dlx, setup on a coffee table, in the living room, about 20' from these rigs, but it is going back this Saturday. Kind of a loaner... :)

In a bedroom that is overloaded with way too much crap, I have four other rigs running. The room is a disaster area, but based on the ( somewhere ) above mentioned theory it is definitely productive.

~ bottom left- an X2/3800+ in an Epox NF3 board
~ on the far right, in blue, an Opty 165 in an Ultra-D
~ to the left of that, in the Antec with the "front" off, an A64 3800+ in a Biostar t6100 board
~ in the back, can hardly see ( well you can see its' red DATA data cable :) ); a n Asus PC-DL DX board running LV Xeons.

( I really should clean up this room, but where do I put all that stuff? ) :)

[XC] serlv

Okay, a few more.

In my bedroom I have three rigs. I have an E6600, in a Gigabyte DS3, cooled by a TT Big Typhoon. Usually it runs with 2 gigs of Team Xtreem DDR667, but as I needed a stick for the "loaner" in the front of the house, it is currently making do with 1 gig. The rig is currently caseless.

Then I have what I call my "main machine of the rear of the house". No good reason for the name, other than when I'm online or whatever, while back there, I'm on that machine, as it has all the harddrives, etc. It sits on the left side of my desk. It is an X2/3800+ in an Ultra-D, cooled by a Thermalright XP-90. It uses good old BH-5.

To the right side of the desk is what use to be my main machine, or at least the case used to house my main machine. The case is a Coolermaster ATCS ( 201 ). I bought it along time ago, and I love the finish and style of it. Right now, it is serving as just a palin cruncher, but with a really zippy Opty 165 ( Ultra-D, TT BT, TCCD ) in it.

Thats' all. For now.
I have more, but need to take pics.

I'm from Minnesota too! I agree with you on the snow. I love it! You from around the Twin Cities?

Actually, I'm about an hour west of there. On a farm in the middle of nowhere(kinda).

Hey man we have the same graphics card.

I think I have about 3 or 4 of those. Also some Cirrus Logic card.
:woot: for flEaBAY lots. (got a box of random cards, it was awesome)

By the way vOdka: I tried to go back to the last page to look at this picture tha serlv is refering to, and then a login dialog popped up. Scared the lights out of me (oops, I'v been hacked or what). Checked it out. I think it has to do with the picture src. Why not load it to here. Below is what I saw:

Hmm strange, I just linked it off my site from a public part of the forum...

Hi Vodka. Who manufactures that grey/black case? It kinda looks like a Chieftec I have but it is even larger than mine. Lotsa room over the PSU in yours'. Obviously you then modded it for the WC apparatus, etc. But who makes the case?

We have a winner, Chieftec it is! You want me to look up the model number?

Nah, but thanks. It just looked awfully familiar. But then, not, due to its' over-size dimensions. Huge space in that thing. Very nice!

RAMMIE you should really get a few cases :)
And I thought I have seen dusty pcs before, but yours tops all of them :)

Furthermore you are running all HDDs upside down, which is still not recommended. You can turn them 90degrees around in any direction, but running upside down aint that good for the long term..

Here are some pics of my bunch of computers. Cant really call them a farm, but better than nothing.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=52132&stc=1&d=1161354458
The while thing in the middle is my Monster DIY projector.
The gray PC on the right is my GF's PC, Opteron 144 @ 2500Mhz 1.375V. Too bad the board is limiting me, could do 2800Mhz with 1.4V on my lanparty :/
The one in the middle my surfing rig consisting of a Biostar Tforce and a naked S754 Sempron 2800+ @ 2850Mhz 1.55V set in Bios, 1.51V real.
The one behind it is my gaming rig. E6600 @ 3.6GHz 1.4V - 4GHz 1.6V

A closer look:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=52133&stc=1&d=1161354458

2 of my HDDs recently died and I was able to get one of them semi working again, which is why there are many DVDs. Used them to abck up the files I was able to recover
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=52134&d=1161354458

Here are my AXP based systems. Just recently replaced the 1.6Ghz Duron an a Asus A7N8X with a A64 3000+ which is running in a different room.
The black one on the left is my good old 0308 XPMW 1700+ DLT3C running at 2300Mhz at 1.6V.
I could never sell it :)
The silver Shuttle is my HTPC, well at least it was before it started crunching.
That was the fastest Shuttle at Sudhedian.com (or whatever that shuttle forum page was called, cant remember).
I was kinda pissed when I got the unremovable black screen issue after 10hours of usage. Had to wait 3 weeks for them to fix it. After that the soundstorm didnt work, after the Shuttle was laying in a shelf for a couple months.
After that got kinda angry and did some mods:
Cut out the rear grill for a push and pull config, did my first vdimm mod, placed a fan below the drive bay, so that fan is blowing directly at the rams and NB, removed the stock NB cooler, lapped it (was 4 days of work, I will never lap ceramique again!) and placed a Thermalright NB1-C on it with a selfmade mounting. That TR was as expensive as a cpu cooler :fact:
But the result was really good. I had 72C load temps before the mods and after them 45C, which was more like it.
Was able to run 250*10, which was the max of the Bios. Didnt know clockgen at that time, so I will give it a try again when I have the time to.
That Shuttle mainboard surprised me, it clocks better than my unmodded NF-7S.

Now you know why the Mrs. isn't a Mrs. but an EX-Mrs.:D
Now if I can find someone that looks like -Acids- GF, loves PC's and is so oversexed that I have to buy stock in Viagra I'll be happy!:p:
Since that isn't going to happen I guess I'll just have to build another PC or 2 to catch up to gr8golf!

Money for cases goes a long way towards another machine.Nobody in this house cares about cases. When the wife or children can access the internet from anywhere in the house they are happy.

HD will run in any orientation without ill effect. Most of the drives you see are 5yrs or older.Don't see too much failures.

When you live in an old house dust is a fact of life.Doesn't impact the performance at all.Kind of act like insulation on sub 0.I would have to shut them down for an extended period of time each week to clean.Rather they just crunch on.

VERY good point! I get machines in for work and sometimes there here for a couple days.they work when they are here. Your basic cheapo P4-2660 will crank 1500 in a day..
Your building a few machines, take 5 mins and toss WCG on as you build, get a few days out of them, then remove before sending out..
It all adds up.:D

one major problem. INternet access which would be needed to send out results is SERIOUSLY locked down if accessible at all. There are at least 3-4 different layers of security and rights that I don't have access to.

I am just a peon on this project.

it runs 3.3ghz on all stock volts. you should definitely be able to push that to 3.5ghz as long as the cpu is a decent batch and your RAM will go that far.

Heh, yeah, I would run it caseless, although when I go to LAN Parties, caseless is not always the best :(. This case is great for LANs becuase it has wheels, its a 1995 Vintage, used to house a Dual Pentium Pro 200MHz. Also the parents were scared of going in my room when it was caseless, in case they either touched something, or got eaten by the Delta, so therefore it never got cleaned, so it had to go back!

I don't have 1**GHz of power, but I just got my latest utility bill. It's high, but not outrageously high. I had bigger bills this past summer when electricity rates were higher. But I feel fortunate. A few people I know had summer electricity bills that were $500-1000. Mine were nowhere close to that. But it's hard crunching by candlelight.:D

Here comes the pain to some of you neatfreaks:D Sorry some of them are a little dark, the camera is a little overzealous sometimes.
Let's start with the network:
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k121/eetlotsgloo/IMAG00500.jpg
Black thing is my modem (SpeedStream 6520), then a D-Link di524, and that big thing with the fan grill that I dremeled out myself is a 24 port 3Com Superstack II:D (it was free too!)
From the doorway:
http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k121/eetlotsgloo/IMAG0045.jpg
Oh my, messy already? It gets better:eek:
Some stuff behind me:

South wall:

The bottom one is dual socket 940 opteron 242.

The middle one is currently having some issues but it is AM2 X2 3800+. It's currently off line for fixes.

The top one is E6300 rig. I originally planned it to put in a 2U. But decided to do it a 4U in order to OC.

I have a 2U space left which is perfect because I have a spare 2U rackmount chassis. I am going to get some cheap Xeon or s940 opteron off ebay and build a cheap machine.

The E6300 rig will go online and Bonic-ing tonight and that will make my 4th rig for Bonic.

well some are donations form them that they let me put on the grid because they have no use for them anymore. so they were gifts to me. and yes the run bionc on linux (ubuntu) and it sucks because they score very low and i could get another 1k-3k per day on a better linux client. they are all old intels p3s and celerons.

as for the servers the poweredge on the right was just donated to me but i need ram and a vrm (i posted in the scrap parts section and have the vrm incoming and if mm gets around to it ram as well:D ) but the other one is not sadly but i do have some lappys and work stations running when they are not using them (overnight)

Sold the Dual 2ghz box, looking for something more cost effective.
what wrong with 1GB? most of my WCG only rigs use only 256mb or 384mb or 512mb and work great even my amd dual core has only 512mb right now.

You shouldn't be complaining!! I am running WCG on an old Celly500 mobile with only 64MB, with Winamp and writing this post!! 1GB is waay more than enough for WCG... :)

Sitting here in a Starbucks waiting to go to an appointment.

Took these yesterday. Screwing around with firmware and a Nikon D80. Apparently you can flash D200 firmware onto camera and get a bit more features. Seems like a good camera for traveling and such. Only messing around with ISO speed, ISO speed is 3200 for those who care, so that is why the images are so grainy.

Here is the computers I have setup at my office, I somewhat like to build "fun looking" computers as people seem to gravitate to them.

http://www.tempo-topaz-performance.com/dfi/30GHz/9F06-12-4(5-4).jpg

The last pic is old, taken before I added the second rad. The "case" is just 1/2" MDF I cut out with a table saw and jigsaw, it's held together with wood screws. Each MB has it's own tray that I can swap in and out in a few minutes. The front openings are covered with a screen to keep some dust and curious fingers out.

Equipment:

X3220 and Q6600 on DS3's @ 3.2GHz
2x Opteron 165's on DFI's @ 2.8GHz
4x 400w Sparkle PS
1x Buffalo wireless bridge
4x Swiftech Apogee
2x Swiftech MCP655
2x 3x120mm rads
6x Yate Loon 120mm fans
1/2" Primoflex throughout

I'll likely swap out the remaining 2 Optys for Quads after the July price drop. Up till now I've been running XP stripped down on some ancient IDE drives. But one of the Quads is now happily crunching along with XSOS on a flash drive. Eventually I'll convert the other 3 to help cut down on heat, noise and power consumption. Needless to say this baby makes a very nice space heater!

What are your temps with those cpu's in series. I guess you combine one opty with a quad each time?

06-28-2007, 11:15 AM
Thanks guys. Temps aren't outstanding but safe enough. 45-50c for the Optys and 55-60c for the quads. Everything is in one loop. It starts at the reservoir up top and goes to the first pump at the very bottom and then goes: Opty>Opty>Quad>pump #2>rad>rad>quad>reservoir. When I first built it I was running 4 Optys at 2.8GHz off of a single pump and rad. Hopefully the cooling system holds up when I fill all 4 bays with quads.

The information posted here has helped me a great deal so it's the least I can do. Heh. That is almost exactly why I started crunching here with XS. I was on another forum's crunching team. I liked them enough, got to know quite a few real well, but found myself spending more and more time here and learning much. I tried running for both forums for a while, but eventually just decided to throw it all in over here. We have a real good bunch of peeps over here. You'll like it here, I think.
