the sony's spec doesn't seem to be suitable for gaming :(
check the Hitachi CML174SXW (http://www.hitachidigitalmedia.com/viewProduct_1.jsp?productid=276) or NEC LCD1760NX (http://www.nec-mitsubishi.com/coremedia/generator/Internet/Subsidiaries/Headquarter/Content/Products/LCD-1760NX/LCD-1760NX,spec=_3F__uk__en.html)
both have 16ms response time.. the lower the better to avoid ghosting effect.
they aren't good looking like samsung monitors but if you are willing to wait i heard that samsung is going to release a new tft with 12ms or something.. even better
the current samsung models are quite nice too.. with 25ms and 500:1 contrast ratio they are brightest tft monitors out there

I've checked the hitachi and the nec, the price tag is pretty good
CCW the one you showed me is too expensive
I'm not buying the screen now, it'll be more around july but i'm already starting to search for the good ones

I'm leaning toward a samsung sycmaster 171N (or P what is the difference) or for the Iiyama AS4314UT which is a $100 cheaper
I'm choosing those two because i can get them for a good price (i can get a $100 rebate on them). Can you tell me how they perform? Does anyone has one with 25ms response time and could tell me how they perform in video and games?

Today i went to a comp shop and i've seen this one Sony 17" - SDM-HS73H, it's only 20ms response time but the IQ is great, does anyone has heard something about this one?
I think i'm gonna get it

I highly recommend the Viewsonic VP171b - 16 ms response time & virtually no ghosting while gaming, viewing DVD's, etc. I've had one for a month now and love it...a great panel. The software is good and it pivots too, plus it has DVI input (which I definitely am usingA). My 2 cents.

By the way beware of the 25ms screens, you will see ghosting on them. From what I hear, 12ms panels in bigger sizes will be out sometime this fall.

The ViewSonic VP171b was much better contrast and picture wise to me than the comparable NEC1760NX. Monitorsdirect.com is a good place to buy from (got mine from Dell Small Business and saved quite a bit that way - but will never buy from them again as far as customer service goes, they actually shipped an LCD to me a week after I cancelled the order then they took over a month to credit my charge card account).

Planar makes an awesome gaming lcd. 16m/s refresh. I have the 19 and it rocks. CRTs own though, for gaming there is nothing better IMO.

Beware....Nothing compares to CRT for the best in gaming. If you are used to the crispness of a good CRT, you'll need some time to get used to the blurry motion of even the best tft screens out there.

To be honest, there isn't a flat screen made that is really good for gaming. At best, the newer tft units are just tolerable. If you're serious about gaming, I'd strongly suggest you try out the models you're looking at right in the store running a game. Pay special attention to the first person shooters. It's something you'll have to see to understand whether or not you can tolerate it.

BTW, be careful when it comes to the 16ms models. Although the rule of thumb is lower response time better, there are a few 25ms models that actually look better while gaming.

Been using a Viewsonic VX800-2 for a while now - bought it last August. I had originally planned to replace it when 12/16ms screens became mainstream, but it turns out it's a lot better for gaming than most of the 16ms models out now.

I love my nec 19inchers, i think they make a 17 inch version. But mdzcpa is right if your looking for a gaming monitor. Nothing beats a lcd with clean sharp text, but i alwase keep my nec 21" total flat around for when i game.

I got a new Acer 19" TFT yesterday. Quite happy with it. 700:1 contrast 300 cd/m. I paid 565€ for it. Its not too great for gaming though, but i dont play that much anyway. I played some racing games and even with the 25ms response time, it doesnt ghost that badly. Of course more than my CRT did, but this is way better on the eyes

BTW from whta i've read it has no dvi connector

I have this flat panel and a dell 1800fp. Both look amazing in games, with the nod going to the viewsonic for overall sharpness, no ghosting that I have seen. There was a reveiw of flatpanels on anad at one time. Good Luck!

CRT is really the best picture for gaming. I have a Sony E540
21inch monitor I got for around $550 US. I am very happy with
this monitor it simply rocks big screen is clear in games and it
gives me a advantage with quick response times.

Alright guys, i finally went to the shop and bought myself a LG 1715S, he might not have the best design but the pic is great. I've been playing for an hour Vietcong and the image simply rocks. It costed me 380€, which is a great deal IMO
